The starter on my disco has become very temperamental since I drowned it last weekend.
Does anyone have a spare starter motor? I am in Solihull area.

Take it to bits and clean it, scuffy the armatoor up and heh presto, also make sure all yer connections are ok including the earths on the chassis.

Good chance its got **** in the solonoid and it's sticking.

This sounds like it could be a plan. Is it really as easy as take the starter off and take it to bits???
I imagined there to be springs and things awkward in starter motors??

There are a few springs and bits, but it's not too bad, certainly nothing requiring special tools.

If you have a decent memory and a couple of tools, a bit of emery tape and a bit of grease it is do-able. Mark the casing with a line with a screwdriver or sumut so you line the end casing and front bit up correctly with the main body.

The only fiddly bit is holding the brushes back as you put it back together again.

If it's fooked what have to lose, if you cant fix it get a recon unit rather than another s/hand unit, most of the repair shops will have one on the shelf, straight exchange for your fooked one.
