All bing well its off to morocco in april, with my 200tdi unit, which has about 120 K miles on it. I hear head gaskets can go at this age, would it be worth changing it now to remove the risk, or could i bring one and change one by the road side if it came to it?

Cheers, Rich.

using that same logic you;d end up changing the clutch, timing belt, wheel bearings, swivels, every seal in the vehicle ....

All brake pads, rear slave cylinders, return springs, all brake hoses, brake master cylinder and servo unit, all steeling rods and ball joints, rear axle ball joint, all suspension bushes, radiator and hose clips (shiney), all wheel bearings and hub seals, both swivils and all the bushes/seals, rear half shafts and drive flanges, 3 of the 4 UJs, clutch kit, crank shaft rear oil seal (x2:mad:), glow plugs, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, battery, alternator, timing belt and pulleys, fan belt and PAS belt, PAS pipwork, copper brake lines on the front, rear diff pan gasket (oil on customers new drive:eek:)...im sure theres more, thats only the last year or so...paddocks probaly employ staff just for my orders, and im broke.... Just thought id share my insanity.

The thing is, he'll have to replace them all again in a few months, what with them being ****part.

well I'm hoping his response to me question was going to be "feck orf i know better than to fit that crap to me nice landy"

I have fitted britpart items to my 90, and I never used to hesitate what with there being an abundant supply of new parts for every component on my 24 year old vehicle, and all at the price of a tray of chips. That was ofcourse, until I became familiar with the brand. Not one of their products has proven to be of any quality, and definitely not 'British'. Be it fuel tanks (one of which I fitted about a year and a half ago), thermostats, sender units, filters, piston assemblies and bearings; there has never been one item stamped with their name that has been manufactured well or worked properly for more than a month or two at best. My fuel tank is nearly rotten through, their bearings were not cut straight, their thermostats loose all of their wax the first time that they open and their filters spend almost their entire working life of around seven days trying to filter themselves. Absolute, total crap. I am all for Bearmach, AllMakes4x4 and any other component manufacturer who prefers to stay away from tin and outrageously cheap chinese manufacturing. Put it this way, if I was going to Morocco (which is a brilliant place), I'd have myself a stock of decent critical components in the back for just in case scenarios. DO NOT, buy a Britpart head gasket, I used one in the past and one of the crimped metal rings that are positioned around the hole of each cylinder split or leaked allowing compression to escape into the coolant and oil channels which created a whole world of problems.

I realise its of a poor quality, but most of what ive fitted to my landy has been ok. i dident use britpart for my bearings or timing belt and i would never fit a britpart head gasket, but i wouldent take it as far as never using there parts. For example i just fited a britpart chassis spring seat, its just bent sheet steel, im sure its rubbish steel but hey so is the landrover itself. Theres loads of parts where its ok to sacrifice quality for econimy, for example im not gona pay three times as much for a bumpstop just for a brand name stamped on it.
