2 Day exterior detail of freelander

Well I have had it for 3 weeks. I'm surprised it's lasted this long before being detailed as it's what I do but I have just been so busy. In fact it's actually no where near the standard I'd like it to be but it was taking a long time and the sun was drying the polish very quickly... If only I had that gazebo!

So don't expect anything near the standard I'd normally get a vehicle too but it does look a hell of a lot better!

Nice. Must get round to doing mine like that. Bought the stuff 2 years ago...

And While we are at it. Can you see that small leak under the front of the car. Is that where the oil filter is or radiator fill up? I have service both recently. However, haven't looked.

I know buddy, problem is I'm skint. I was just going to get a cover for it. Ideally a hard gloss black one. I did get one off ebay that was listed for a landrover and put a sneeky low bid it. Won it and when I picked it up it was from a bigger landrover as it was huge. So wasn't any good.

Sure can.

I started off with an all pupose cleaner pre-wash and gave all the plastics, trim, griles a good clean out with a detailing brush and all purpose cleaner (Bilt hamber surfex HD).

Arches again done with bilt hamber and various brushes.

Wheels were done with with autobrite wheel cleaning stuff (forgot the name it's the non acid one - very cherry or something). I also cleaned the tyres with APC and a brush.

I then washed it with G3 body detox (to strip any protection and give it a thorough wash).

At this stage I didn't bother drying as it wasn't needed. I went round with the tar remover for bits of random glue that were present - being black it was hard to see any visible tar.

I then went round with bilt hamber korrosol (a fall out remover). This is a pretty important stage which not many people actually do. My car was full of iron fall out which you can get from brake dust and polution. It sticks into your clear coat meaning an uneven top coat = less shine.

I then rinsed it all off and started claying. Again, more bilt hamber stuff- I used bilt hamber clay with my own special QD - bilt hamber say you can just use water but in my opinion there isn't enough lubrication for this clay. While I'm at it I also dry any smearing with a microfiber (hense why I don't bother drying after the wash) the clay gets rid of any water stains.

Then I moved onto polishing. The paint was thick enough to warrent using an aggressive combo so I started off using menzerna FG500 with my DA. I have stupidly lent out my flex to a friend who is now on holiday but it would have saved me masses of time. Although menzerna say that FG finishes down it didn't very well on this paint. It was pretty hard going to be honest and a few of the deeper scratches are still there.

I did the majority of the polishing with menzerna PF2500 and then UF4000 to finish.
I did have a bit of trouble with polish drying out and being an absolute pig as I don't have a gazebo at the moment so in the end I gave up on full correction and headed for de-swirling the paint. As it was taking forever and I couldn't work the polish long enough because of the heat.

This produced a lot of dust so as always I then washed the whole car again to remove any dust. Then a quick IPA wipe down to remove any last oils. I then dried throughly. Have it a quick hand polish with autoglym SRP to help glaze it a little and to partly mask some of the remaining scratches.

I then finished it off with some new wax. It's not a particularly good wax - only retails about 25 pounds. I have much more expensive wax but thought I'd give it a try. Supposed to be pretty good but doesn't last very long. It was chemical guys xxx . When it needs doing again I may try something better. I didn't leave myself enough time today to put my ceramic sealant on. Plus I wanted the paint to be perfect before I waste it on it as it stays on for around 18 months.

I then went round the plastics with AG bumper case and did the windows with rain x. Again I have some sealant for the windows but just wanted to get finished today.

Tyres dressed with meguiars endurance. Sealed with poorboys wheel seal.

and when you have saved a bit can you do the back wheel drums it looks fantastic other wise and the leek well that is below where the oil filter is but did you spill a bit .and it could be of another car just park it else where and then check

I have some satin black hammerite in the cupboard. Thats a job for next weekend (unless something else comes up. I am going to do both rear drums and the front calipers.

this will really get me hated, even by my own the gaylander mob, but my views are simple, people buy land rover because they have instances when they will be going off road, or ........ as a chelsea tractor, my sister has a new gaylander, it will never see mud in its life, mine will never see a bucket of water or soap, unless I run over it, the mud stops rattles, and the spent shotgun/rimfire cases inside, stop people from nicking it

so what's yours

My reason is that I need something bigger than what I currently have to shift all my detailing gear around. I have my own detailing business and didn't fancy a van.

It was this or range rover but the fuel and tax on a range rover scared me. Discos and defenders were too agricultural for me...

This reminds me, I really need to get round to cleaning that horrible white gooey mess old spider webs/nests make in the door trims and seals...

I keep delaying it because I'm horrifically arachnophobic.

How much would you charge to come clean the spider mess out of my doors? the rest I can do myself.

South Yorkshire (Rotherham) I do travel to an extent but not as far as somerset lol.
