My 2000 2.5 TD Auto (with appr. 230.000Km). has serious problems: The engine stalls, when I put the gearbox in reverse. Simply stalls, tries to move the car, can't, just dies. When warm, the same goes for D.

I have changed oil and filter, fuel filter, fuel return hoses, vacuum hoses for EGR, engine is running flawless, no noises, no irregularities. No faults on Nanocom Evo II. Not for the engine, nor the gearbox.

Gearbox just changed transfer fluid today, wasn't that bad, still red'ish and tranparent, no extreme smell. Didn't change the filter, the workshop was not able to get the right one, so we left it there to see if there was any changes.

Even on a lift, with all four wheels free, it just even could keep itself running, with significant drop in revs, when gear is engaged.

Driving, I have to put it in N, when rolling on to red light, then rev the engine to 2000 and put it in gear. Starts fine off, and drives flawless, smooth gearchanges, lock-up clutch engaging and disengaging as it should, no noises, nothing.

Reversing is completely impossible, I have to put it in Low Range, and then it barely keeps running.

It's like the torque converter is locking up or so, it just does this at stand still. Somehow there's no slipping between engine and gearbox, as there should. Any ideas? The workshop mechanic had no ideas, BMW wouldn't help (not our car, go somewhere else - despite it's the BMW engine), can't be bothered to ask a Land Rover dealer, they want - just as BMW - a new car, they can hook up to a computer. I can't imagine, there's a mechanic, that knows those old cars and engines...

~750 (haven't got the exact number from the Nanocom), steady in N. In D, letting it roll towards in intersection without throttle, i can see the revs vary about 50 rpm's
