The clutch fork collapsed a couple of weeks ago so thought i would pull the engine out to replace, whilst out i`m going to do the cam belt and fit a complete clutch assembly. On removing the radiator i noticed the fins are mostly mullered, no leaks so enquired about a recore as its the brass type, quoted over £200 so on looking around found a new plastic and ally one at paddocks for £150 delivered, anyone know where i can get one cheaper before i take the plunge, cheers.

Can't recommend anything beyond a Google search for cheaper prices. I bought the same rad from my local indie. It did make a massive difference to the cooling, to the point where it runs cool all the time, even with a thermostat - probably good news for a 19j. There was a slight difference to the connections - the new rad has two small hose connections at the top, whereas my old one only has one (for the expansion tank). I just blocked the second one off with a bit of folded hose.

Check Champion Radiators on ebay.

I bought a 300tdi rad from them years ago, ali core, been a great radiator.

Thats good to hear, mine tends to run a bit hot at higher speeds.
I have googled the hell out of it and the cheapest is £150 delivered so looks like I`m gonna have to bit the bullet and order it, cheers for the feed back

I'm 60% of the way through fitting a 200TDi radiator and frame to my 19J, seemed the most logical solution.

Did think of doing this but was a bit concerned about losing about a third of the cooling area compared to the 19j rad

Adding an intercooler is a good mod for 19j,the air temp going into the motor is reduced a lot giving the rad less to do.
Even so a good nick 200 rad will cope with a 19j that's not worked to hard like heavy towing.

On a brick like the 19J it will not run MUCH cooler, there would be a difference on a temperature probe but nothing notable.

Remember heat is not a bad thing with a diesel, they are heat engines, they want to be hot but staying within the parameters of the coolant and associated system - over cooling is as big an issue as over heating.

I finished fitting it today, bar some leak issues with the new oil cooler fittings it went pretty smoothly. Will report on how engine temps are behaving but so far it's quickly gotten to running temperature and stayed there happily.
