Hi, Sorry for the basic question.

When looking under the bonnet, what's the easiest of telling a 2.5TD and a 200tdi apart?

I know 2.5 engines started with; 19J
is this the same for the 200tdi engines?

Thanks Mark

The oil filler cap on a td is metal with 3 indents and just lifts out, the filler cap on a tdi is completely different and is made of coloured plastic and unscrews - loads of other differences but i think that's the most obvious.

Despite being billed as a TDi this is actually a TD - look at the black metal oil filler cap with the three indents in it

whereas this is a tdi (albeit from a disco with turbo in differentl place, the plastic filler cap is easily identifiable with no garden hose coming out of it!)

Thanks very much, superb!

The most obvious thing is the actual rocker cover.
The TD uses the classic cover that fits many landies, and the TD has a cast iron cylinder head.

The 200 tdi has a flat ridged rocker cover and a aluminium alloy head.
