Folks,
People rubbish the Range Rover, even have polls on this forum on how unreliable they are, well this will either make you smile or severely **** you off.
I’ve got a 1998 2.5 dse auto with 80,000 on the clock
I’ve just returned from a 3,410mile round trip from the UK to the Costa Del Sol, passing through France before returning to this dreadful country.
The R/R never missed a beat, no notebook signs, no warnings on the dashboard, no wandering steering, no tram lining, no leaks whatsoever, no test book issues and apart from fuel costs, only cost me a litre of oil..!!
Oh yes, fuel… Diesel => £1.12 a litre in France and wait for it.. £0.98p a litre in Spain.
These fill ups were from the main Autoroutes down as well, our equivalent of motorway services and we all know the current price this rip-off county charges at those locations!!
Would add though, my R/R is serviced at the recommended intervals by my local independent and did have a pre-holiday check as well and the only thing they did on that check, was overhaul my key fob, at my request.
I think this just goes to show the benefits of a regular service and check over.
Well there we go, they’re not all unreliable as certain people on here will have you believe..
And no guesses where I’ll be retiring to in 16 years time, far, far away from this bloody awful place.….?!?

Glad you had a great trip, but don't you kinda think it's indicative of the RR P38 unreliability when we think our RR's are doing great because they've gone 3400 miles without breaking down or doing anything wrong?

My 1993 Escort Ghia goes tens of thousands of miles without anything happening at all, and it does it all the time. All I ever do is change the oil and filters and away it goes for another 10k. Is it remarkable, no not really because that's the way cars should behave.

The P38 is too complex and has way too many gadgets and toys to ever be completely reliable. It's design was influenced too much by the USA.

I love mine to death but I do kinda wish sometimes that I'd spent the cash on getting my 1987 Classic Tdi manual back on the road instead, oh for simpler times ......

All the above IMHO of course :D

Guys,
Firstly, Stig, the car averaged 31.5 miles to the gallon which I didn't think was too bad when the cars overall trip average speed was just 50mph.
I cruised control at 75mph on the main routes down and back but little run outs up into the mountains brought my overall average tumbling down.
At 98ppl I didn't mind burning fuel just enjoying the features of the car with silly trips out, it's too expensive to do it in this country..!!
Secondly, fair point bwarb, it's amazing how we all get so excited when the R/R does exactly what ever other car on the road does...
