I have done the aircon fan mod using an Xeng temperature switch in the radiator outlet and also with a manual override. It certainly helps cooling but when heavy towing with a chipped diesel it isn't enough. My DSE used to overheat on steep inclines pulling about 2 tonnes. Solo it would probably be OK.
hi,could u plz clarify,,when my 2,5d p38 is standing cold,,should i b able to spin the viscous fan freely or wot..??..ta..
hi,thx wammers...when sitting cold i can hardly turn my viscous fan,i assume viscouse unit is needing replaced,,??..ta...
They are often a bit stiff to turn when cold as the silicone gel stiffens up. When you start the engine from cold the fan will usually roar for a few seconds indicating it is running at full speed until the gel liquifies it should then become quiet. If you stop the engine at this point you should find it fairly easy to turn. Then as the temperature rises, the bimetalic control on the front of the unit effectively causes the unit to lock up again![]()
:hysterically_laughi:hysterically_laughiWhere was this explanation a year or so back when I was busy covering my drive, my hedge, the road outside and my neighbour's garden, in shredded newspapers?
