Hi all,

I have been searching and have found a few useful threads and pages that have been pretty useful (landyworld). But I need to ask my own questions to help me get everything ready to get the conversion done as quickly as possible without being without the use of my 90 for too long as it is my work vehicle.

One of the things that comes up most is the issue with the pipework between the disco engine and radiator in a 90. Would it be possible for me to fit a defender radiator, oil cooler and intercooler assembly without the need for cutting the radiator frame? Or can I just bypass the oil cooler as my 2.5 doesn't have one anyway?

I am currently looking at a discovery 200 on eBay that finishes in a couple of days the seller says it comes with r380 gearbox and 1.2 transfer box obviously these are of no use to me so what is to be done about mounting this 200 to an lt77. Is it a straight bolt in other than the 3 or 4 bolts on the bottom to be drilled and tapped? Can I fit the flywheel housing from my petrol so none of this works needs doing?

That's all for now :D

Cheers in advance.

Good questions. I'm just about to start doing the same and was wondering about the bellhousing too.

Glencoyne 4x4 will modify it for about £50. I'm doing my own one as I'm a machinist.

Rad frame does not need cutting it's the rad brackets on the chassis that need to be cut down and welded otherwise the rad is to high.

To save cutting my brand new galvy chassis, I cut the lower mounts off of the Disco radiator surround and welded two M10 bolts back on instead. That meant the radiator fame sat about 10mm lower and there was no need to cut my chassis. The M10 bolts just sat nicely in the existing chassis mounts.

If you follow the guidance on the glencoyne website, then yes the 200tdi will bolt straight onto your LT77. Don't cut any corners and bolt up the engine without doing this - 200TDi into Defender - some useful info - by Glencoyne Engineering

Thanks for all the replies everyone. Getting pretty excited now I should have done it before I put the Landy on the road seeing as it was sat from December through to June. But I kept telling myself that the 2.5 petrol couldn't be that bad, which in all fairness it isn't really, broken down twice and that was only because of a condensor and coil. Just can't afford to be putting between £60 and £100 a week in it :(

The engine I'm looking at is on eBay at the moment. The seller says it was in a whitbread buggy? and has been removed, comes with rad, intercooler, r380 and 1.2 transfer box. Says the owner before changed the cam belt 3 years ago but the truck has done very little mileage since. Wills change again alongside clutch and crank seal. What sort of money would people suggest this is worth?

So I didn't win the 200tdi last nigh. So I scoured eBay last night and I must have seen around 10 300 tdi discovers between Plymouth and Somerset for less that £700. Am I right in thinking the only difference between fitting a 200 and 300 is that I have to cut and weld the engine mounts? Cheers,

Lloyd

I've a good 200tdi if you're still looking - haven't posted enough to put it in the for sale bit.

Thanks for the offer but I picked up my new engine this week. Got stopped by a fellow Landy owner in the fuel station the other day. He saw the green pump and asked if it was a v8 then told me he had a 200tdi in his shed for sale.

It's a defender 200 engine with a discovery exhaust manifold and turbo, complete with a full Steve Parker exhaust kit, coolant, intercooler, oil cooler and power steering pipes. £400 he had even built a frame to sit the engine in so I could see and hear it run. Picked up on Tuesday and he gave me a set of series doors and a defender windscreen and frame.
