hi there,

here's a little story about my 2.5NA, I did not change block, pistons, crankshaft, shaft rocker, rocker assy. basicly the rest has been replaced with new. Had a lot of fun rebuilding it.
Untill I started the engine, first thing smoke, oke happens, bit tweaking more cleaning, still lots of smoke (not white but blue-ish.), changed head (new) valves, seals, gasket. injector pump. Still smoke (not white but blue-ish.), seems to fire up at 4 (while startermot r is helping) and goes back to 3, lots of noise.

I do not know anymore what to do,
Any-one?

Hi there

From the sounds of it you've had the injectors out of the head so its more than likely you've either got a duff injector, air trapped in it or missing a blast washer.

Start it up and let it warm up a few seconds. Using a wet cloth touch each pipe of the exhaust before it joins the manifold. If its not firing on a cylinder the exhaust pipe will not get hot so won't fizz when water touches it..... makes sense? Don't use fingers as its easy to burn them!

So the issue is either (A) no glow (B) lack of fuel (C) lack of compression

(A) NO glow
If it fires up on 3 then stutters and fires up all 4 then thats probably the glow plug is dead. It will fire without glow as long as there's enough compression but changing the glow will cure it.

(B) lack of fuel
To check the injector unbolt it from the head and reconnect the fuel pipe and turn it over and look for fuel spray but PLEASE BE VERY VERY CAREFUL as it sprays at high pressure so point it away from you and cover with a rag. If theres no spray, swap the injector around and see if your non firing cylinder moves. If it does get the injector serviced at around £25.

(C)loss of compression
Make sure you have replaced the copper sealing washer on the shaft of the injector and the tiny blast washer at the tip of the injector. A 10p washer was all it took to stop mine from firing on all 4.

Hope this helps
Cheers
Dave
