so whats the point  of course a 4.6 petrol will accelerate quicker, and driving a ton truck accelerating like that with a 4.6 petrol you just aswell set fire to £20 notes, if you want acceleration/speed buy a decent car and have proper acceleration, a 2.5 disel 2 ton truck is not built to be swift

 who said i wanted to drive fast all the time?? its a simple question as to which is quicker. if your not in a position to spend £20 on petrol to find out DONT.

if you got nothing good to say...... i think you know the rest.

Is this a joke of course a 4.6 V8 will be quicker on everything not just acceleration.
Are you really that stupid!!!

well seeing as i did own a 4.6 at one stage im not really joking

quicker on everything not just acceleration?? what does that mean? do the doors close quicker? seats adjust quicker? and if you mean top speed nope not really ive had both at the same top speed. but seeing as you dont drive a P38 you might not be the best person to comment.

As you have a Jeremy Ferns modification fitted i actually understand your question and would be interested to know the answer.:pop2:

On paper in standard trim petrol should see off a diesel. However not is all it seems, 4.6 petrol is 200 pounds heavier than the diesel. So that alone puts the diesel closer. Low compression petrol is around 200 bhp high compression around 212. Standard diesel around 134. But diesel with a chip will happily push out 165. With a better chip and a big intercooler maybe 185-200. In that trim it should at least be equal to if not a little quicker to 60mph than the petrol.

Well I timed it at a tad over 14 seconds and would like to think my 4.6 would be quicker. If the misses lets me have a go any time in the near future, I'll go and have a drag race and let you know the results.

thanks for that lads, in the stats it says 10.6sec for a 4.6?? would they still do that today? you know ware and tare etc?

Possibly not, 12 seconds for two ton diesel lump is not to shabby though is it. You might reduce that a little by booting it with the footbrake on to let the torque convertor get a good grip, then let the brake off. Good vid, Ladyranger will be all damp.:):)

not bad idea, what about revs, does it rev more than standard? also i wonder if i put the sport button on would it make a huge difference?

now there's a thought!!

It might improve things i don't know. Torque convertor will hold revs down obviously but the turbo will be winding up, boost should come quicker. Sport button holds gears a little longer to give more progressive power but changes might be a little harser. Don't blow the bloody thing up.:):)

Yeah you made an impression on her, there may well be a little damp patch forming when she watches that. :D:D

I doubt it - might even slow it down, the diesel is going to make all of its power in the midrange, holding the gears longer isn't going to help. Sport mode would probably get you between tight bends quicker by keeping the turbo spooled up.

Might give my old girl a blast to see. Ain't many straight bits of road round where I am though!

Curiosity got me, just went for a quick blat. Didn't use sport mode either as you can see by the 5K rpm change up. Think I got "go!" and hitting the throttle out of sync! I'm knackered and trying to steer off a kerb, aim a mobile and drive in the wet at the same time got the better of me - that's my excuse! :) Anyhow the video:

Fair play dude, i time that at 10 seconds dead!! fair play buddy wasent expecting someone to do a video but grateful. might try on sport mode tomorrow and see if there is a difference. i wonder is there someone here that has a standard 2.5 so we can see what the 0-60 on that might be.

If DSEs went like your one I would have probably got one instead! It's not as if we burn around in these cars anyway, it's rare that I have to prod the accelerator hard - I just plod around which suits the car. I reckon your DSE is pretty-much as quick as a 4.0 petrol.

i do drive a lot of miles (currently 205,000 miles as you can see from the video) but i do drive quickly most times. fuel economy is not great in return, getting about 17-20MPG but all self inflicted so i dont really complain. get about 20-25 MPG on long motorway runs but then again im normally doing about 90MPH so not good for the MPG. if i was looking for amazing fuel consumption id drive a different car. happy with the luxury and the style
