Hello everyone Im back....! and Ive decided to ditch the freelander and buy a rangie!

And although I was a great fan of the freebie Ive been tempted to the classy side!!!

Any way I have a question for you Clued up rangie rovererers.......

Is my BMW 1997 2.5 diesel engine a V6 and does it have a chain or camshaft belt?

Many Thanks in advance :)

how many miles has your rr done? cos the timing chains should last for a very long time, the only reason i had to do mine is i had a replacement engine which i bought in bits, not such a wise thing to do but for £140 it wasnt much to lose if it was knackered. turned out to be a good engine with oversized pistons and after getting the head pressure tested and skimmed i just replaced the chains, gaskets and bits & bobs.
now i`ve done 14000 miles since rebuilding it a year ago i reckon i have the cheapest p38 on the planet costing me less than £1500 to buy my range rover and put it back on the road minus an mot which i just got last week after not having 1 for a year!:D

Thanks for the info chap, mines done 107k, Ive had her in bits today studying the engine outlay and condition. Lucky for me shes seems in great shape at the moment.

Only thing is the brake pads are horrendously low:eek:

There does seem to be a lot of oldish oil at the bottom of the intercooler LHS flange which seems to be a oil separator blockage possibly ? any one on here think the same?
