at last my car is running again with new head.
But using new stretch bolts and following the instructions in RAVE I first torqued the bolts down as instructed, then
the 'undo by 180 degrees' completely loosened the head bolts
then torqued up as described, then
tighten by 90 degrees fairly tight
tighten by further 90 degrees VERY tight, so tight I had to brace myself against the wall to tighten. Can this be right I though I was going to strip the bolts !!!!
I have now run the engine for 25 mins to warm up.
Before I tighten up again by a further 90 deg. is this correct ?? Does anyone know what the final torque used should be ?
Thanks.:)

not if bolt threads are clean and lightly lubed ,the first part were you tighten then loosen is to take care of compression of head gasket,i mark stetch bolts with paint pen as each is done to make sure all done right as you cant check after like you do with torque wrench

well all done, but it wasn't possible to tighten more than a few more degrees, not by 90 deg. I used a 3ft breaker bar and most of the bolts were absolutely solid. Anyway, pretty sure they are now tight !!

Car ran beautifully until .... the old misfire problem has returned

This seems like an electrical problem but is intermittent and no-one has been able to diagnose it.
