Hi guys,

My mate 'The Dude with the 110' may or may not have killed the 2.25d in his '83 110. Rather than paying out to rebuild it after probable oil starvation due to probably knackered oil pump, he's considering a 200tdi,

Yes I've searched, and theres no details on this in a 110, only in a series, probably due to the low amount of defenders with the 2.25...

His is already a diesel so no issues there, I'm currently beginning a 200tdi conversion in my series 3 so know a reasonable amount already....but have a few questions....

- Does the bellhousing need adapting like on a series to fit his LT77 box?

- Will the disco 200tdi manifold clear the chassis rail on a defender 110 (i know it doesn't on a 109)

- What's the best rad/oil cooler/intercooler setup - bodging the Disco items in, or going with 19j or 200tdi defender items (bear in mind we're looking to spend as little as possible and will most likely be able to get the disco setup with the engine)

- Engine mounts - defender 2.25 ones be ok?

- Which clutch should we use?

Cheers in advance, sorry if I missed it in a search.

seriously my friend this has to be the most coverd topic on ere i would have thought you would have been asking ive found hundreds of threads which ones are relevant

its an easy conversion..
i did 25td to a 200 tdi and then from a 200 tdi to a 300 tdi all in a defender

I know its my nature and my downfall , but the missus didnt think that 5 mins ago tho ;) :D lol

ok yeah your right where you watching you dirty dog LOL

All that lot is for a 2.5TD though and I didn't know how similar the two are having never had the need to work on a 2.5

Yes I did search and found **** loads, and no I couldn't find anything that even mentioned doing it to a 2.25 defender hence why I asked.......

There must be differences, considering i read when doing a 2.5 to swap the bellhousing so you don't have to adapt the 200tdi one, is it possible to do this on a 2.25 as well considering they are different engines, and nobody seems to do this when doing it in a series?

Fair enough on the chassis rail clearance one, I'll have a trawl through on that question as it will have been answered, as with the rad/oil cooler/intercooler question.

Question still stands with mounts, will 2.25 defender ones be OK and still don't know which clutch, apparently 2.5td and 200tdi are the same but no idea again on 2.25, though I'm assuming the gearbox should accept a 200tdi clutch in any case but wondered if anyone knew.....

found this within 3 secs of searching and theres hundreds of threads

Thats in the series section though, different gearbox and chassis!

So from the above info on it being the same block I'll take it we can swap the bellhousing over from the 2.25 and use the same clutch again, that'll do for me then, thanks, and I'll look into seeing if I can do it on my series conversion as well.

that was just an example of searching

Thanks for that, and if i search for '2.25 to 200tdi' in Defender section I get 10 results, 2 of them asking about wiring, another asking whether he should get a 200tdi in and no details on doing it, and the rest arent really relevant. As I said before I know theres some differences between defender and series, don't know how substantial other than theres definitely a different gearbox and my 82 series 3 2.25 engine is slightly different to my mates 83 110 2.25, so thought i'd ask just to make sure!

If as you say the blocks identical then how come nobody seems to swap the 2.25 series bellhousing to the 200tdi when doing that conversion? Can I save myself some money in my series conversion by just swapping them across instead of modifying my 200tdi one?
