Hi, for those who have read my previous queries you will know my distribution pump is very worn and retarded. I've made some enquiries with companies selling parts and I can't believe the price for a reconditioned unit, most of the companies actually suggested that i should pay for the pump to be reconditioned, does anyone know how much this is likely to cost (from experience) and anywhere in the midlands area that you'd recommend to do it?

Cheers,

Matt

it would pay you to shop around, the best people are the people with small companys that have been around for a long time, not living in the midlands i wouldnt know any one, i live in wales and there are a few but with the cost of labour which bumps the price up, 1 company i know of is a 1man band and was asking 100 quid for a recon pump, to have a pump serviced he charges about 140 quid it all depends whats needed, the bigger companys have huge overheads and all they do is rob you blind,go for yell.com or browse the yellow pages you will find some 1,

Do it yourself!

Here's one I did earlier, and the engine is running like a sweetie as a result.

It isn't difficult, but it does require care and skill.

sorry boys ... photo didn't show first time.

Note the special tools involved, all lying where in order they were needed.

hi Charles
i guess youve done quite a few of these, what needed doing to it, what are the usual problems, and are they easily apparent when stripping down,
any bits that unexpectedly fly apart taking apart,

i havent seen any diagrams in manuals for taking them apart, is it a straightforward assembly

PM me with an email address and I will email the Lucas instruction sheet.

Nothing flies off, no tricky sneaky bits, just a beautifully designed and wonderfully thought out device. It is POSSIBLE to make a big bog-up of the job, but keep in touch and I will guide you along. I hope you are VERY good with your fingers. Many people definitely will NOT be able to do these pumps. And I hope you can "SEE" how things work. It helps a heap if you understand pretty much exactly how it works FIRST, because you recognise the bits as they appear.

You do need to work CLEAN, and a compressed-air blower is almost essential. Nothing else cleans crap out as well as an air-jet. It is very pleasing when it is all back in one bit, and no little pieces left on the bench!
