I just talked to a guy who is selling a 99 Range Rover with 76K miles on it. I haven't seen it yet. He's said the engine starts and runs fine. He had it sitting around for approximately 1 year with the battery disconnected and now the transmission is inoperable. He said he called the dealer and they told him that it could be that the electonic control for the transmission needed to be reset (reprogrammed) since it had lost power for such an extended period. He said you can hear it shift, but the transmission does not engage-as in it will have to be towed somewhere to have it fixed. He doesn't want to put anymore cash into it.

I've never owned a RR and I was thinking of taking a chance on it if I can get it cheap enough. Thanks to the forum I know to look for wet carpets and to be afraid of the AES- he said the suspension was fine by the way.

Any insights on the transmission issue? Is this possible? Anyone experience this? Any idea on cost of repairs? Also, assuming the worst - how much should I expect to pay for a complete transmission rebuild in the midwest US?

Any other words of wisdom?
Thanks in advance.
