hi all,

well i ordered a new cat section came today. the motor factor used my reg number and sourced me the part, it looks the same only i need 4 sensor points maybe 2 lambda and 2 oxygen ? , my exhaust has 4 2 before the cats 2 after, now i was sure this was only on 1999 onwards models, mine is a 97,, however mine was a jap import, would this be the reason?, just curious as would a 1999 exhaust fit ok ? as in will it be the same sensor threads

cheers

I think the 4 sensors were only used on export models (NAS, Jap etc). My '02 has 2 sensors pre-cat & blanking caps on the threads after the cats. Post '99 would be your best bet but not sure if the threads are the same, would have thought so.

I don't think NAS had rear O2 sensors, but Jap definitely did.

You don't *need* to have them - the option can be turned off, as they aren't actually needed for the emissions system - they are just used to monitor if the cats are working. It's the 2 upstream sensors which are used to determine rich/lean running.

However, in answer to your question, yes I think the threads are different post '99 - I just had a look and the blanking plugs for the rear sensors have different part numbers after VIN XA410482.

The other option if you want to keep the sensors, is to get someone to weld a couple of nuts onto the exhaust you have now (with the same thread as the O2 sensors).

i think i`ll get a standard exhaust and get it switched off in the becm then, would my becm be able to have that done, as mine is open i dont have or need an eka code, less sensors to go wrong the better

The Jap market are a lot tighter on their emissions than the UK.

They have Cat heaters & these can be turned off through the becm.

It's not good to have your EKA turned off.

Just out of curiosity why is it a bad idea to have eka turned of?everyone seems to get bother with it ,engine disabled and wont accept eka etc.i would have thought this would be a good idea,
