hello

After chewing over different options with others - I'm about to fit defender 90 heavy duty 2 inch lift springs to my discovery - looking for that firm ride - only green lane once every 6 - 8 weeks, otherwise used as third vehicle with road tyres.

Appreciate comments please - Any disadvantages/problems?

Hey,

This was a serious request for help / advice please.

The reason for the lift is to get the bigger off-road wheels and gain a little height when in those ruts - but not float like a boat when on-road driving!

The advice to use 90 springs on Discovery comes from a guy whose on his 3rd Discovery in this format.

I visited the photo gallery after posting the first thread and it seemed like most Discoveries not lifted?

Ruddy confusing - I just want to get on!

Hey,

And you've had serious replies ... If you don't get the answer you want, don't suggest it's not a serious answer ...

90 springs on Discovery[/B] comes from a guy whose on his 3rd Discovery in this format.

I use HD springs which effectively lifted the Disco about 40mm (when measured) 'cos there's hardly any droop. But we tow a caravan most weekends and off-roading is a compromise, not a good one at the mo', and as soon as we get another car I'll go to softer units.

For the use you want, so long as you don't carry heavy loads or have a winch etc then I'd suggest you read Trewys thread, as already replied by MHM but also note that Defender springs may not suit as they're usually handed, where Disco aren't. Don't go heavier weight unless you need the load carrying ...

We've been through all this before a million times. Firstly putting taller springs on doesn't give you any ground clearance improvement under the axles. Secondly you don't need to **** about with your suspension in order to fit bigger tyres.

There are lots of threads on lifting. None I've read specifically deal with using 90 springs on a disco. If you search for my user name, there's a recent thread that has a load of info about springs. As the other guys have suggested, there is a 'doom and gloom' thread about lifting, and there are also other threads where people say that 2" is where you can be without too much in the way of hassle. I don't know why there isn't a 'sticky' on this - prolly in the top 5 most asked questions.

Thanks,

Ben

it all depends on what driving you do

my disco is just a toy now

so a 2 inch lift on sus insa turbo tyres (bigger) and 2 inch body lift :p

but gets used and abused :p

i had trouble with my front propshaft and rear rubber donut since doing it

so have fitted a wide angel front prop and have got good at changing donuts

if fitting defender springs on a disco was a good idea then dont you think more people would do it??
there are loads of aftermarket kits available with different lifts and spring rates specifically for different purposes for the disco

I've got +2 inch (although due to sagging more like +3) Spirngs and matching Britpart items, cost next to nothing, on road ride isn't compromised too much, and offroad it gives enough height to stop the sills and back end hitting the floor. Diffs still take the occasional knock.

Anyway, point is why bother with Defender springs when an aftermarket kit can be had for sub £200?
