I have owned my land rover for a year, it is a 1993 range rover classic lse, the engine has been ungraded to a 4.6 block (i presume from a p38), it still has a 4.2 head. It needs a new alternator, should i be buying an alternator fit for the original car, or should i be getting one designed for a p38.

Also i am thinking of selling it, it is quite tatty, original bull bars with spots, mud terrains (covered 300 mls), converted to coils 500mls ago, electric seats and radio broken, new front wheel bearings, new fuel pump, chassis solid, rusted top tailgate and rust boot pan, one owner till a year ago (a friend of mine). All paper work. 12months Mot. And i was just wondering if anyone had any idea the sort of money i could get for it..??

If I were you I would exchange the exisiting alternator for a refurbished one of the same type. To be honest, the most you could reasonably expect for the 93 LSE is around £1000 to £1500, but don't be surprised if you get offered a lot less.
