first off, what is the easiest way to change the swivel ball wiper seals?Would it be easier to take the complete hub/halfshaft assembly out of the axle casing or strip the hub?In the haynes manual it only covers complete strip down.
Also would this year have remote locking as standard as didn't have any fobs with the car when I brought it last week.
Cheers

I assume you do have a functional central locking and operated by the door key it's just the remote fob is missing. :)

Remote central locking was an option on the basic early discos and unlike the later 300 series you don't need a fob to remobilise the engine.
Have a look for the ecu it's behind the glove box it's a black box and will have a TV type coax plug pluged into it.
Make a note of the part number and the frequency printed on it, it will/may be AMR2106/AMR2109 418Mhz or 433Mhz depending on VIN and if you have a UK spec disco... then all you have to do is get a compatable fob, which u can program to to the ecu yourself.

in my book its easier to remove the caliper and suspend out of the way, and then remove the 7 9/16" bolts securing th swivel ball to the axle, and pull the whole assembly out of the axle. caution: HEAVY!

then undo the little 3/8" iirc bolts retaining the seal retainer, and then pry out the seal. check you have no play in the swivel bearings, they should be smooth and ideally have some kind of preload (stiffness of rotation)

bang it all back together job done.
