Hi,

I know I'm new but have some pretty odd symptoms from my Range Rover 1988 Efi V8.

It starts first time, every time, with no misfire, even after 2 months of sitting doing nothing. In very cold weather it always runs perfect, mile after mile. But in hot weather at first it starts just the same and runs fine, but after a few miles it wont rev over 2800Rpm, misfires and the idle wanders/hunts. If left to cool down for even 5 mins, or I hit some cooler air on the motorway, it returns to normal, and stops misfiring. The moment it heats up again, the misfore and refusal to rev starts again.

These symptoms happen every time.

I gather from some people it could be air flow meter, but would really appreciate some advice, as I'm at a loss what to do!

Thanks in advance.

John

I know nothing about RRc Efi but I had similar symptoms on a V6 Volvo and it was the MAF. got a new one on the internet for a quarter of the dealer price, problem sorted.

Inlet air temp sensor could be the problem. This in conjuntion with ECU engine temp sensor controls the fueling for a given air temp/mass. It is normally contained within the MAF and is not seperatly replaceable.

disconnect positive cable from battery for 1/2 hour and pull the terminal plug from the air flow meter. reconnect positive to battery again, leave air flow meter disconnected and take vehicle for a good run. Then tell us how it behaved.
