hi guys, just recently i have aquired a 1983 classic rangerover, and i have had the front end appart on one side ,the inner wings are ,well ,kfooked, and it need some new ones!

i was looking at some on paddock spares and they are 135+vat for a whole wing, but just wondered if anyone else had actuly used them before and if so are they anygood ? and do the holes line up properly if there are any ?

i am aware of pattern part not fitting properly depending on quality and also how long they last depending on quality, and 135+vat is ino quite cheap!

many thanks tom :)

no..but i would give them a go..just fitted new inners to my 4 door...wish i had not now as they were gen lr brand new 2 door ones.(had them for ages).just found out they are worth more than the 4 door!!ekkk

My father-in-law has just done his front inner wings on his 94 softdash and he bought his from YRM metal solutions as we had recently bought a rear crossmember from them for mine. He was happy with the quality of them and said that everything lined up nicely. They come un-painted, but if it was me, I would get them galvanised, then powdercoated anyway, which is what I did with my crossmember.

okay ,well thanks for the info guys will probably just take the other side appart now and do both then, also i presume then that the two door and four door ones are different or not ? because if they are i will need the four door ones !

Now you have been suitably underwhelmed by the price of replacement panels I assume that you've checked the rest of the car for rot, as if the inner wings are that bad what about all the other well known areas ... sills / boot floor / rear wheel arches etc. The rot worm loves these 'classics' & not all repair sections are available, the boot floor for example.

i make my own just buy a sheet off metal from any auto shop make a pattern from cardboard and bobs your girl friend done a few now and always look ok are you doing your own welding?
o i do have a work shop so plenty off tools :D

yea i will be doing my own welding , and the rear crossmember and floor have been done but just starting at the front and then working my way back but yea i have looked at sills and chassis is all good, footwell outer skins are rotten at the bottom and the inner wings are buggered, engine will come out and be rebuilt and then i can start on sealing and proofing the bulkhead as suprisingly its rot free:D

but the innerwings just seemed very cheap, but yes appart from some body work window and door rubber and little odds and sods for an 83 classic its pretty good:D

and thankyou for the offer of your workshop PETE@HER but i have some tools and am doing okay at the moment, fingers crossed!

Re. the bulkhead, there is a tendency for the earlier years to be less rot prone (by LR standards) than the later examples of the RRC. LR had steel quality issues with the series three 88's & 109's in the late 'seventies & seem to suffer the same problem from the intro. of the Disco in '89. It's good to see folks like yourself keen to preserve the earlier Classics - I wish you well with the project.

well thankyou for your encouregment and input, it will be my second project and sadly the first one didnt get compleated but this one defenantly will!:D

thanks everyone for the input and i will up data on this when i have got anyfurther with the project

tom

up date on the project, i have had the other side appart and the v8 appart, heads off cam out cover off, carbs off uno all the usual stoof ,not had the bottom end appart as yet, but will do soon.

as i am going to be putting a new cam shaft ,push rods ,and all new rocker gear on the engine has anyone ever tryed a piper cam or viper hurricance before with a 4 barrel ,any good because if they are there is no point in putting standard back in ,boooorin :D

and how do you post pics on here have never done it before ?

I'm sure someone on here may have, but a good source of advice and parts is John Eales at JE Developments (not JE Engineering), he's a RV8 Guru, I bought a fair few bits from him incl my cam when building my 4.6.

The guy at V8 Developments is also very helpfull.

oh okay mate cheers for that will look into it, i was only realy thinking on new valvs high lift cam,4 barrel and ring and shells ,and basicly the lot realy so its gonna be sitting for a while now while i get the bits, and while i keep fixing my series 3 to keep that going and on the road! :)

hi, your classic sounds as rotten as mine. Does a inner wing with rust holes in fail on the MOT? as mine has gone on the drivers side.

And photo's you need to put them on Facebook, Flicker or any other website you can post photo's on, Then you will need your 'facebook' page open as well as Landyzone, right click on the photo you want to put on and in the drop box there is something that says 'Copy image URL' copy the URL then when you want it on your thread click on the yellow box with the mountains in at the top of the text box ^^^^^^ 'Insert Image' and paste the URL that you copied of the other web page. Sounds complicated but you will soon pick it up, I only figured it out yesterday :scratching_chin: .

I might take my front arches off and re-build them with new steel as there is not much rot, rear arches though I have found some weld in parts for £23 each side on e-bay.

yea mine arent that ritten but they are well gone realy ,you could repair them but i want new ones, easier and well cheaper, and nope the front inners arent a failier aslong as there not near any body mounting or near the foot wells and yea you want to do the back ones because they are well the seat belt mounts realy so yea i will try and get some pics on here soon! thanks for the info

they are made from Zintec - dont need to be galvanised.

Galvanising is approx 10 times thicker than zintec and i tend to try and give things as much protection as I can get when i'm doing jobs on my RRC nowadays so that I don't have to come back and do them again any time soon. I know a zintec coated part should still last a long time, but if it's easy for me to give something that extra protection then why not :)

zintec rusts preety quick..a fly can sratch it off..

abit of an update on the rangie, have had the engine out, cleaned the block, put new bearings in and new clutch on,and obviosly new crank seals! i have also cleaned the bulkhead off,and undercoated with waxoil,as it has no rot atall, and most of the coating was still there,so just coated over it,have given the chassis a nice coat aswell, and have put the engine back in,when i figure out how to put pics on here i will, but for now i will just have to do without! sorry :( just need to weld the minute rot in the footwell skins,on the outer of the car,and the rear arch, and the little bit in the foot well! :D
