looks like the indian branch of the s.l.u.t.s were out to welcome him home in the last photo, first one looks like robint and second one in looks like ratty:)

Very nice and tidy, how good is your supply of spares over there? As you don't use salt on the "roads" I know that corrosion is not such a problem but they sure punish the mechanicals and suspension.

not sure seemed to be a Austin 7, the guy (PO) also had a Sunbeam and a Vauxhall Wyvern plus the Indian Hindustan Landmaster and a 68 Beetle

sorry you missed me completely on the S.L.U.T.S bit, thats a religious procession by the Sikhs , passed it on the way home thought itll make a nice conversation piece (seems to have worked!!).

thanx, yes we dont have much of a wet problem in the North of the country, heres some pics of it being taken apart prior to being re built. parts is a major issue, hope scour some scrap yards, but found some old shops in Old Delhi that still carry some VIN Parts, found road spring bushes, gear stick boots (with fungus) pedal shoes, synchro gear ring, wiper blades and lamps so far. keeping my fingers crossed!!

Pic 3 makes my point, a 1969 bulkhead would not be that pristine in the UK unless it spent the entire time in a garage. Even the "rusty" window frames are pretty good. Curious as to the price of new (when you can get them) parts compared to UK.

yes the bilkhead was surprisingly clean except for some spot rust on the area under the brake pedal. Heres some more pics of the painted engine and some after it was put back. The tail gate is completely knackered and we are building a new one!! and trying to bring the instruments back to life. Can anybody please send me pics or drawings of how the high-low lever fits into the gear box arm (one with the large hole in it) ?/ my parts are missing !! All switches are also missing am using modern switches and fashioning the plastic paddle toggles with tubing!
thanx

well new (old) parts are quite reasonable, i got road spring bushes for 50p (half a pound) and tail lamps for about 80p each, speedometer cable for GBP2.00!! its the exchange rate you see. The guy used to manufacture parts for Land Rover and export them. I heard the hard core off roaders in Sri lanka are making pollyurethane road spring bushes for about 2and a half pounds!! but very few spares left now certainly none of the electrical ones!!do you think i should shift this thread to the series restoration forum??

today we re furbished the the brake and clutch master cylinder assemblies and the pedals. Then we re built some of the undercarriage panels that had split, the Birmabright aluminium alloy used is not very amenable to welding, it warps easily hence riveting is easier, more aesthetic and if you use flush rivets will not be seen!!:D We opened up the differentials and gear box since the gears were jumping out of second, found the synchro gear pistons were not holding as the gear ring had been ground smooth and lost its grip, put in new ones fortunately found in Delhi !!
