Ermm Right I've kind of gone back in time here, I've stripped the landy down to bare arsed chassis in prep for waxoiling next weekend. Also papa has got my tires on the restored wheels thanks to the friendly chaps at the local garage, Cheers Ben & Co.

Now the best bit picces.


Poor old Metro sat on it haunch`s, prove's the boot is bigger than I thought.

Hello,
I know its being a while but I`ve not been idle, honest.
As said in the previous post i was preparing for waxoiling well what i`ve done is chemiwaxed the inside of the chassis, ie every cross member, outrigger the lot, also I`ve waxoiled the outside in black, also both fuel tanks have been painted, fitted and waxoiled.

The engine/gearbox is back in and fine, ill be fitting the alternator tomorrow.

Both axles are fitted with shockers on rear one for now as the front one is stripped down, Im going to sand blast the brake drums and backing plates also the the driving hubs and hopefully get it built back up next weekend, i got both diff seals and propshafts fitted this week as well.

Ive brought a series 3 brake pedal box and a servo along with a master cylinder, which works out fine as my brake master cylinder is a tad knackered, I just figured seeing as i`ve come this far with it would be daft not to fit one at this point and also the offside wing is already had a piece cut out in that area.

what do you folks think ?

looks to be nearly there now, I would agree with your logic re fitting the servo and cylinder, seems an opportune moment.

Makes sense to upgrade brakes if you can i guess. Don't do what the previous owner did to mine....they ran the brake pipes a little too close to the bottom of the clutch pedal box which made it an absolute pig to remove the clutch pedal box to replace the master (couldn't twist it to get the pedal through the slot in the footwell when removing)

Now then

I finally got my photos uploaded so are we sitting comfortably, here goes.

We did this several times up/down, side to side and upside down ( that was interesting )



The rear axle and fuel tanks on





one slight problem, I`ll get it drilled out at some point.



The front axle with swivels on, new seals fitted all round. The bearings were all perfect so they stayed.

the front brake plates on however, I`ve turned them forwards by one bolt hole to make fitting wheel cylinders and pipes easier.





making up brake pipes I`ll get better pics at some point.

so I`m getting there slowly but surely.

Now then, we have had a wee bit more progress since the last post.
all the running gear is finished, I've fitted gaters over the swivel balls, it was fun sewing them up.



and we've had a test run today !!!!!

Thanks folks, it is a great feeling, although quite odd been so much higher. My rover metro seems very small now.

I've started building the exhaust and should have it finished end of play today.

You having triple tanks ? Rear and front two ?

nope just two front tanks, i did consider having a rear tank as the body side filler is there, but it was easier and cheaper to put another front one on the nearside. plus i feel it balances the vehicle out better.

I've got my exhaust made and it cost me ..... nothing, always a bonus, its neat and tidy, the purist would'nt like but hey it works and its fairly quiet ish.

You could have it with all three though have the rear tank running veg mix and the front two running derv then you could swap over once warmed up and have dual fuel!

Here goes, i've not got a picture of the finished system as it was too dark.

the exhaust that was with the landy was brand new, never been used so subsequently certain bits had rotted ie the silencer, so I've used the front pipe which had already been altered to fit the bmc 2.2, also the intermediate pipe which i've had to alter to fit a bigger bore dia silencer and tail pipe.

the silencer used, i've routed this so it come out behind the the rear spring on the offside.



it not quite finished yet, the welds are to the grind down, and a coat of zinc galva spray.

Got a quite a lot done.

Ive got tub in the garage and Im well on the way with it, Ive removed the rear fuel filler and plated it over also the tub mounting points which are quite badly corroded

Right I got Picces!!

As you can see the floor was a tad holy

The improvised cross members ?!


The front mounting panel plated over with steel, Im cleaning up and doing the same but with 1/8 ali plate as I dont have access to a tig welder.


The floor cut out, makes it a whole lot lighter.

The shiny ali area was 1/4" to 3/8" thick with filler due to a "slight" dint, so I knocked out most of it and glued a 1/8" thick piece of ali behind the area and clamped it down till the next weekend.
now to today Ive got the top backing plate and the top plate fitted with the same method more picces tomorrow.

Cheers Mate, she`s getting there.

Ok got a little more done today, the fuel filter is mounted on the bulkhead now fairly high up ish. Its mounted with captive bolts welded to a 1/8" plate the inside of the channel and another plate on the outside, both have been glued with MS polymer adhesive.

a heater valve I picked up for a couple of quid, not bad eh.


The old fuel filler plated over, it is actually dead flush and with a skim of filler it'll be fine.

might be a bit late but mine is fitted without the cooler, guys at garage i go to seem to think it performs just as good without it...

Hello, I hope you all had a good christmas and new year.

now I have got nothing done on the land rover for about two weeks due too my rover 114 quite literally falling apart, the front footwells and jacking points were totally knackered, I finished them today, painted and undersealed.

but Ive got the floor the tub on trestles in the garage and had one coat of varnish so far.



also I brought a new rear rail for the tub as the original one is past its best shall we say along with the rear door threshold and seal so at some point be fitting these.





Ive got both tanks rigged up with pipes, change over tap/switch and a return into the driver side tank.





so hopefully next weekend will be business as usual.
