Hi folks,

I am a 49 year old retired police officer with a family car and 20+ years no claims discount. My son is 21 with his own car and three years no claims discount. I have also had classic car policies for a number of years. I have got rid of the classic and I am now looking for insurance for a 1987 Landrover 90 on a limited mileage policy.

I have tried the following three companies (recommended on this site) who have all said they will not insure anyone under 25 on a Landrover. When I said people on Landyzone under that age claimed to have insurance with them they all said the individuals concerned were "liars".

The companies concerned are Lancaster Insurance, Adrian Flux and Sureterm Direct.

Can anyone advise me of an insurance company who would be willing to insure my vehicle for myself and my son and does anyone have a response to the companies who say they are liars?

your 90 will be ok on classic insurance as it is over 19 years old ,

im looking for a defender 200/300 tdi im 18 with 1 years ncb and the lowest i got was 1600 on fleet insurance.
my first car was an 87 mini that i insured through footman james for 500 as it was classic car policy if you can get a defender that falls in to that category then you could get a similar policy.
also if you get your mum or dad insured on the landy on a different policy it may not add anything but it means that you can be insured for say 3000 miles a year and the car could in theory do 5000 and as your parents are insured they have no way of telling who did those miles, just make sure that if your parents are on your policy then its not 3000 miles between all of you as if you went over your insurance would be invalid.

Hi everyone and thanks for the help. We got insurance from Footman James on a classic policy. They were friendly, helpful and efficient. I would recommend them to anyone after the hassle we had with two well known companies we have used for many years.

I'm 23... 1 years ncb, 3 points, 6 years driving experience and no claims.... £940 fully comp with adrian flux on a 96 300 tdi disco... time to stop changing cars and starting racking up those NCB!! :-(

Yup, aviva are good. I paid just over £1000 for my 90 defender van. Only had license 2 months!

I have just got a quote for my defender 90 1990 for £10,000!!! I am 17 and just passed my test, this quote was from aviva, Im fishing around but the prices are all the same, its a joke!!

2seater truck cab

Right, I'm not sure if you can still class this as a van, probably not. When I put my reg into Aviva, the vehicle description is wrong. I click the box saying this is incorrect, and I change it from a car to a van. Takes about £8k off my quote.

I'd look into wapping yours for a van if you want cheap insurance.

I'm 21 with 0 NCB and got insurance from Lancaster for £350. Was really happy with that. I've heard (from people on here) that they're really decent if you add modifications too.

18 as main driver but not owner, disco 300 3.9v8 lpg, all mods approved as long as they dont increase bhp or top speed! and im paying £1100 in london, well happy with that

When I was 17 I started with my 1983 2.25 Petrol Series 3 which cost £900 with the NFU, I later bought a 1989 200TDI Range Rover Classic whilst I was 17 and I changed my insurance to that and it didn't cost any extra!

I kept the classic going until I was 19......Then when It came for renawal NFU would no longer do it, apparantly there reason was that they changed their age limit. I then Had to shop around and couldn't find any one who would insure it so, I had to get the Series 3 sorted ready for the road as that was the only thing I could afford to insure (By this point the Series 3 now has a 200TDI in)

So I tried Adrian Flux, £850 to insure my TDI Series which wasn't bad I didn't think for a 19yr old! I'm now 20, and I kept the Series going until my renewal last June, if I had kept the Series would have been £700 which is exellent!!..........However I needed comfort again so after rebuilding my other Classic I now have a 1986 300TDI Range Rover on the road which cost with Adrian Flux £895 Which I personally think is pretty good considering the high insurance group of a Range Rover!! :)
