Hello guys out there.

I'm 17 years old and am looking to buy a Defender 90, it will be for off roading
but at the moment i'm struggling to find insurance cheaper than £2500 that is on a Turbo, but with a non Turbo it's considerbly cheaper.

So my question is this. What are the dissabiltys of off-roading with a non-turbo
i've only been off-roading in Series 3 before and they were all petrol. So could someone tell me what, if anything, a turbo will help me with off road.

Also, if you know any cheap 4x4 insurers it would be helpful, tried old Adrian bloke and he's to dear.

Any idea's?

Thanks in advance mates

if its just fa offroadin get an old 90 n/a or turbo and put it on a classic limited milage policy say about 5000 or 7500 miles a year and that should bring ya quote down a fair bit!i think i'm with peter best so might be worth tryin im.

Having owned 110s with both the 2.5 n/a and the turdo version I reckon the n/a is the better of the two. The turbo version doesn't seem any more powerful if anything it's slower to pick up revs. And the n/a's definitely longer lasting. Power and torque isn't much of an issue once you're in low range anyway.

2.5NA is a good engine - I ran one for 3 years and it did the job, and mine had good low down pulling power. Offroad is was perfect.

if its JUST for offroading why not get somebody else to insure it and drive it to the offroad locationd for you!!??

Silly idea I am sure but seems CRAZY for youngsters to afford insurance these days!:bolt:

Makes you wonder how some of them insure themselves on brand new cars and roll about in beamers in things. DO they even have insurance?

I've got myself an '86 90 with an N/A in it and it's great. It accelerates well in 1st and second with big tyres on (once its warm!) and it keeps up with the traffic. I'm mainly using it on motorway runs at the moment between Leeds and Ipswich and it gets there on a tank, about 28MPG at 65, 70MPH depending on the wind!

Offroad it was fine too, but ive only done that a few times.

Use NFU and get yourself down as a named driver, only cost £430 for the year fully comp and I was 17 at the time, but that was with all my dads no claims on it!
