Hello all, I have an 02 gaylander with 17" rims. Dont like the 55 profile, harsh ride and succeptible (dunno if I've spelled that right) to kerbing (blame 'er indoors for that).

What is the highest profile anyone has managed to fit on a 17 inch rim? Would a 235/65/17 be a possibility?

I use 215/80/15's for laning and such and much prefer the higher profile.

:confused::confused::confused:

When I asked about this, I got told that there would be a 5% ratio difference, in other words it would feel over geared.
I personally can't see anything wrong, as long as all 4 tyres are changed at the same time.

Exactly, thats why I was wondering if anyone had fitted this size of tyre to a 17" rim.

Obviously all 5 tyres would be changed at the same time, but only if they will fit in the arches......

When I tried to find out about this - I have LR 17" alloys - it really comes down to what shape the actual tyres are rather than the size quoted. (skinny or fatter sidewalls)
It's basicaly a try it a see - one make 235x65x17 may be ok but another batch of the same make & size from a different country (mould) may rub.

Michelin even advise against fitting mixes of their Synchrones and Lattitudes of the same size (255x55x17) on the FL as they have different rolling circumferences!

This is why the 16" rim is better, coz you can use a taller sided tyre that has more "give" and thus a softer ride

Certainly better for tackling a less smooth surface
The 15" rims make for an even better offroad tyre sidewall size
