Would you still reccomend one to somebody?, I said milage was a bit high but they don't want to spend more than £9.5k and it will be getting used off road, taking stuff to tip and things so keeping it mint wouldn't be the first thing on their mind, so maybe getting a cheaper one would be better.I'm not too clued up on the TD6 though as I've got the 4.4 and reccomended one, trouble is he's a tight git and doesn't want to put the fuel in.
Anything to really look out for on the TD6?, apart from the usual, steering coloumn, air suspension problems and just general wear and tear.I've heard mixed things about gearboxes blowing up,injectors failing but if they were going to go I would have thought they would have already by then?.
I said try and find a Vogue but would think it's going to be a stretch at that price.

If he doesn't want to spend money on it, tell him not to bother with a range rover, they are a money pit that you will never recover when selling it on. Tell him to stick with a cheaper 4x4

im interested ijn the reliability side of the TD6. Im guessing it cant be any worse than my 2.5 DSE????? Looking to get one very soon

I've told him that myself, as I know it all too well already, but he's certain he wants a higher milage/lower end L322, so wondering if the TD6 will be ok or go for the V8, guess it depends on the history really.

The TD6 is renowned for not having enough power and the gearboxes are known to fail just for the fun of it. I was speaking to an technician who works for Williams land rover at my local independent yesterday and he said that all the technicians that he knows at land rover rate the BMW 4.4 V8 engine that's in the 02-05 rangies as one of the best engines ever fitted to the range rover, he said a well maintained one is almost bulletproof.

A mate had one
Had 2 gearboxes go and other problems
he sold it because it got so that everytime he went to it in the morning, when he unlocked it

he always had in his head the question
'I WONDER WHAT WILL GO WRONG WITH IT TODAY'

Now he drives a new A5 & a defender for shooting

He bought it with sensible mileage on it and serviced regularly etc
His was the diesel

Thats how i feel about my P38 DSE. I used to have a petrol which had no end of problems so thought not alot can go wrong with a diesel. Was i wrong

Went to look at it with him earlier and the gearbox seemed fine, car actually drove quite well for its milage and the interior had worn well, few issues with it though, it was doing the thing when the rear fan only turns on and the front fan dials are on but no air which is some resistor under the dash, it happened on my 4.4 too!, one of the doors wouldn't open, no resistance on the handle and it would need a couple of tyres, the engine felt gutless compared to the 4.4, I think an LPG V8 would be the way to go.

I'm getting an average of 18.8 mpg with my 4.4 V8, according to the trip computer. Mostly town driving with the odd 300 mile round trip on A roads + Motorway.

thats surprisingly good. 50 on the motorway??:p

any faster and i can see the fuel guage needle moving! feels good though when i put my foot to the floor at traffic lights, people in pimped up corsa's look at me like thats such a big car they think they are gonna beat me in a traffic light race... NOT! lol :D:D:D EAT MY DUST :croc:and listen to my V8 engine ROAR!:cool::cool: lol
