12J Front Exhaust Pipe

Need to renew the fecker but on inspection I have found a nut-stud type Im not familiar with.
The 3 studs stick out the manifold to mount the front pipe to, they are held on with nuts...but on after the nuts it looks like a washer on each one that might prevent a socket going on there..
Is this some ancient Land Rover form of lock nut? and how do they come orf?

do you mean someone has put flange nuts on the wrong way round?

no i dont think so as if they were, the flange would be bigger.
But it looks similar yes, but with a small flange....
