Hi all, have had a 127" rolling chassis sitting in the barn for 3-4 years and just getting around to doing something with it. No paperwork or plates with it but tax discs found in dash suggest it is L reg and historic vehicle (if they belong to it). Cannot find any history of 127" leaf sprung chassis this early in any books that I have - it is in such a condition to suggest it is later than 1972. Anybody out there have any thoughts on age of this chassis, no.begins 9010 and gearbox 90376021B. It also has 4" x 2" box sections welded to top of chassis to hold whatever body was on it although these have been cut through to remove it. They look as if they were added at the factory stage as very well done. Any info would be very welcome.

Does look as if it has been done in the factory, but who knows? It has a buggered Perkins 4203 in it with Fairey O/D and FWhubs and tow bar that is adjustable on a heavy duty screw thread. Chassis is in excellent condition with no signs of rot anywhere.

Yes, seen pics of this, but not the same. Lorry style tank fitted to outside of chassis I believe. This has twin tanks, one under driver's seat and one betwen chassis at rear.

your right, managed to find the mag i saw the prototype in, its a 129" and yeah, looks like lorry running gear. you've got a stange one there!!

Just checked dumb iron and number, although difficult to make out, does not appear to correspond to bulkhead plate. Looks like it starts 9110 which would relate to a 109" of similar vintage. It gets stranger!

i would say if its 127" between the axle centres the chassis will have been cut n shut with some extra material added to give that wheelbase... cause as far as i am aware the longest series wheelbase was the LWB 109" i think carmichael did a 6x6 fire engine that had a longer wheelbase to the rear axle but you would notice the extra axle....... ;)

i would say its a special either from a coachbuilder or someone fancied a go at a ELWB and got busy with the welding kit

as said PHOTOs will help

All 127" chassis were originally cut and shut 109's by Special Vehicles, it wasn't till much later till they got their own production line.
