My friend wants me to go with him tomorrow to look at a 2002 Defender County Station Wagon. On sale at Hallam Brothers in Hayfield.
These guys are usually top notch, and this Defender looks very clean in black. Price is £10,700. My worry is the mileage.....121,000. I am guessing this will be all motorway driving, so will this Defender be alright to buy?
I wouldn't generally buy a car with that many miles on it, but Defender TD5 County Station Wagons don't generally appear for that price unless they are tatty. How does the TD5 handle high mileage?

Mine's on 56k, so I can't answer directly.

But surely service history - particularly regular good quality oil changes - is the critical factor. More so than outright mileage I would have thought.

121k on a well maintained looked after modern lump is maybe not such a huge milage??

Mines on 145k and still going strong. A lot of them are hard miles too. It does a fair bit of towing off road, up steep hills and on ice/snow. It is usually pretty laden too.

Well, we looked at both and he's gone for the 2002 XS with the higher mileage. It did drive well and was very clean, including the chassis and interior. I have a 2006 CSW with 33,000 on it and it drove pretty much the same as mine.
