I know this will have been asked loads of times. Will be looking at buying front and rear springs and shocks soon to get me chassis rolling.
Don't really want cheap Britpart stuff, but cant afford top of the range stuff either, anyone recommend any Decent stuff, ?

Britpart shocks and springs are very good. I wouldn’t hesitate to replace mine with Britpart again.

Thers 5 pages here https://www.johncraddockltd.co.uk/l...nd-110/parts/suspension/suspension-kits/?cant see what the difference is in most of them, I wont be carrying a lot of weight so don't suppose I will need heavy duty. but maybe 2 inch lift

At the time of replacing mine, I wanted something a little less “bouncy” than the standard 110 springs that were fitted. I have the Boge self levelling unit fitted, and wanted to keep it if I could. I opted to put under TD5 rear springs, both the same and not handed like standard ones are. They are nice and firm now, but I carry quite a bit of gear and tow often, so they are a benefit to me. On the fronts, I went for standard springs for my year, can’t remember the part number, but again I put 2 the same and not handed.

Just remembered I had the Boge unit on mine but looked knackered so took it off. don't they have to be replaced with heavy duty springs ? I'm sure I've read that somewhere

Got Britpart springs on mine and they are fine. What do you want with a 2" lift. It just means you have to faff on with different radius arms and all that shenanigans..

The ones designed for my 1992 110, were a “soft” spring because of the Boge unit. Once the Boge was dropped, the springs were “upgraded” to a heavier option. I searched online and the general consensus was that fitting TD5 rear springs gave a very good ride, so I went for it.

I couldn’t move my Boge unit by hand, but could while it was fitted to the chassis. So I’m refitting mine. I have never noticed the back end “sag”, so it must be doing something.

I can’t see a benefit to a lift really. I have a +2” kit in the shed that I bought a couple of years ago. It will probably stay there for another few years......or maybe it will find it’s way to the scrap man after the rebuild has finished.

Just to say I've fitted the britpart kit last week on my 90, very pleased with the result. While I was at it I changed the shock turrets and just about everything else for galv ones, not too dear.
It's made a big difference to handling and the way speed bumps can be taken, don't realise just how old and nackered the old ones were.

OK You have all convinced me, Britpart it is, makes sense really and save a few quid too.
Now which ones to choose from ??

Bog standard cheap ones. Save your money for other stuff where it will be better spent. And, while I'm on, I've got a grumble  Not enough pictures are being provided for your rebuild. I don't want to be presumptuous, but that would make a canny New Year's resolution for ya ;)

Il try Mate, but it is a very slow one, just waiting on Chassis coming back the I can make a start getting axles back on and rolling. I have Heat and Light now so don't need to wait for the light summer nights, I can get up for a couple of hours on these cold dark nights now.

Ha, ha you jammy sod. You're the second person to tell me about having a heated garage in the last two days. :p
There used to be a lad on here called Aaron Morris who could strip and rebuild a Defender at a hell of a pace. However, most rebuilds are slow (talking years), so don't worry about that. I think you'll find most people on here like to follow a rebuild thread, no matter how slow. When the chassis comes back you could always start adding to this thread CSW 1987 ;) Looks like it could be a good watch :)

Still haven't decided yet but I forgot I have these. They were fitted to the front by the PO brand new to the rolling chassis, and just stood for about 7 years and started rusting, Ive no Idea if they are standard heavy duty, or lift, Or even if they will still work properly after standing all that time.
Not sure weather to buy the rears to match and use these, or just go for a complete new set, front and rear.

Have a look at the painted lines on the springs, and compare them to this chart.

Looks like they may be heavy duty.

Cheers, how do you find these things :) Great Info there. Looks like your spot on Yellow/White NRC9449 https://www.johncraddockltd.co.uk/l...d-90-rear-lh-and-front-lh-heavy-duty-110.html
So would you recommend same for rear Heavy Duty, ? also would you use these I have after just standing for years ?

I found it a few years back when trying to decide what to put on mine.

Personally, no I wouldn’t use them. I don’t like a harsh ride, so I avoid anything “heavy duty”.

I don’t think standing for a few years will do much harm to them to be honest. From memory, the Terrafirma shocks are gas filled, and stay extended. Try and compress them. If they are difficult, you should be ok with them. I would use the shock turrets you have there, it’s the style I wanted but went with standard galvanised type.

Just that I have read a few places that when replacing the Boge Unit some say its best to use Heavy Duty
When I place the bottom on the ground and push down they go down very easily with no force then when left they extend back out slowly.

Sounds like the gas pressure may have dropped a little. They may be fine.

If you look at rear springs for post Boge vehicles, these have been designed to work for that setup. The TD5 is one variant, no Boge was ever fitted (that I know of) to a TD5, but they don’t use “heavy duty springs” as such. The springs are much heavier duty than the standard ones we had fitted, but not as heavy duty as the marketed “heavy duty” version.
