Just bought a Land Rover defender 110 300tdi 1988 with a Salisbury rear axle haven't had a proper look at it but when you come off the throttle it's makes a horrible noise was told could be bearings inside
Does anyone have any advise or even have an axle that would fit in Cumbria or north Lancashire

Should also add that the noise has started since the old owner replaces the input shaft oil seal. Has also had a 2 inch lift
Forgot to mention that

You don't say which input shaft oil seal, but if it is the oil seal on the diff, it could be that it hasn't been adjusted properly when he re-fitted the flange nut.

diff oil seal ?if so its likely thats the issue and pinion bearings are not set correctly and would need changing, its not a difficult diff to rebuild but you need to know what your doing

Some people I have spoken too have said that Salisbury axle is a right job to do

people are put off doing salisburys put thats lack of knowledge ,you need a long bar to adjust pinion nut and a long bar made to hold the flange from rotating, whilst you crush the spacer between the two bearings and set the preload, does the diff flange have any signs of play ie in /out up/down ,showing bearings are not set or worn out

Prop length ??? Got the axle that I'm going to fit but think I might need a longer propshaft. Taken the Salisbury out and got a Rover 1997 disc brake axle to go back in any advice??
