Hi All
I may unfortunately have to sell my 1997 (P) 110 300 Tdi van due to career
change.
Its an ex National Power vehicle in white with a gearbox driven capstan
winch/rear divider/and completely boarded rear area.
It has done 153k miles and has just been serviced by Liverages of Solihull
with 12 month MOT.
It runs really well the only problems I am aware of are the usual occasional
crunching between 1st & 2nd and a clunk when taking up the drive, I don't
know what these may cost to repair but I am sure someone here will give an
estimate?
I would appreciate an estimate of its value as I will probably put it in
Auto Trader
THANX
Tom

clunk taking up drive can be all sorts, but if it's gearbox output shaft,
then yer looking at about 600 quid or so for a recon box (which will also
solve any dodgy synchro on 2nd) and about 75 quid for a cross-drilled T-box
gear, which all when installed solve it long-term.

if it's not too bad, then leave it...:)

other things that can clunk though are UJs in the propshafts and CV joints,
which are much easier and chepaer to fix, so worth checking out first.

heyho. I may have misremembered. But it's trivial compared to the cost of
the other bit.

And yes I know, you can rebuild the box, but it's not recommended for the
faint-hearted.

.... and to all the people who variously told me, before I actually looked
"Oh, it's only the shafts that go, the gear will be OK" (and one or tow who
said it the other way 'round), BOLLOCKS. The shaft and gear on mine were
equally and more-or-less identically worn.

Very true - just changing the gear is a stop-gap measure.
