Went to pay and play day a few weeks ago and ever since my 110 fails to start sometimes.

Basically it won't start cold, a clicking noise comes from engine bay when I turn the key. But if I roll it forward 2 ft then turn key gently it'll usually start. And if I've driven for 10mins, turn if off and then try and start it, it will 9 times out of 10 start.

Searched on here so gather it is the starter motor due to the clicking noise. But does this sound like its loose connections like most of the threads on here turned out to be? As I've checked connections and they seem fine. I would have thought if it was connections then it would never start?
Or do I just need a new starter motor altogether?!

Take it off open it up, it's probably crapped up inside. Clean and give it a grease up make sure the everything moves freely. And check all connections are clean and tight.

I have a starter problem.

Mainly when it's cold and wet, I turn the key and it clicks and whirls but doesn't turn over for a few times. It works a little better when I start ignition, wait a while for a 'clunk' then kick her in.

What is the clunk after about seven or eight seconds? And what is wrong with my starter?
Same car as op, 200tdi

I cleaned the connection to the stop solenoid this morning and seems to have done the trick for me, its started from cold twice on the first turn and it hasn't done that since the problem arose. So thanks for the suggestion, saved a lot of messing about trying to get access to the starter!

Dont grease the starter drive pinion. Its meant to be dry. A little graphite dust can help a worn drive pinion slide on its shaft. Grease or oil attracts clutch dust and gums up the works.
