10w50 too thick?

Engines wear most in the few seconds after start before oil pressure builds. The 10w part of the grade means the oil circulates quicker and therefore protects better in this phase. The 50 part is the oils performance at running temperature. It really is up to you. As Irish says 10w 40 or 15w 40 if your engine is otherwise ok. But i would not use 10w 30 at any stage. If it's using a bit of oil you can try 10w 50 that may slow the loss down a bit. But the bottom line is no matter what you use if your engine is tired there will only be one outcome eventually.

I figured my engine isn't really tired so bought 10W40 :)
Now waiting for the spark plugs, oil filter and air filter to arrive!
A bit less wind would be nice too - 80mph winds here brrr
