Hi all as many of you may know I recently had some welding work carried out on my disco which ended up being a shambles and I lost some money, I have decided rather than pour lots of money into a disco which will keep rotting no matter what I do to take the body off and use the chassis engine and gearbox as there all in GREAT condition!

rather than go out and buy a chassis etc I'd rather use this as a base for the project, I want to build a defender 100"

I will be starting the project from march onwards and would be grateful if anyone has any tips? hints? or if anyone knows anyone who has done this could you point them my way please.

I hope I'm making the right decision, but I am looking forward to the project! :D

finished project i would like a 100" that can seat 6 - 2 in front and 4 in rear tub although i will need to modify 110 roof I'm guessing along with rear tub etc.. any tips just shout my way!

MANY THANKS IN ADVANCE

THIS IS WHAT I WANT THE END PRODUCT TO LOOK LIKE! No doubt I am in for some very very hard work and lots of swearing

just buy mark evans a 4x4 is born dvd  he used a classic rangie chassis but the basics will be the same

+1,but it will workout more money and take a long time, unless you've got a workshop it can live in.Fair play for having a go:)

This may be of interest to you.

"Land Rover Owner International" magazine have featured building a 100" Hybrid on a Disco chassis over the past few months its called "Project Off-Rod" its almost finished in the latest April Issue I got today.

I am sure you could order back issues if you wanted.

I have been given the use of a workshop when I need it and a parking space in a secure yard! So hopefully this will be enough to get started :)

All I can do is try!

very good dvd ,and it helped that he had a bottomless pit of money to add all the goodies i think someone worked out his hybrid cost 45k

Bloody hell... Well my budget is more around £1500 lol! Lets hope I can do something reasonable with that! Looking at bulkheads wings tubs etc though for the defenders I think that's achievable! Might go a little over budget but at least I won't lose money on this, if I invested 2k into a disco I'd never see that back!

Thanks for that I shall try and get hold of them!

guaranteed you will lose money......

Other issue is that your plates will flag "discovery" on the ANPR system and it wont look much like a disco.

sure if you can prove it still meets points all will be fine but PITA getting pulled. :tea:

It would be worth it in the end,but on a £1500 budget would be impossible unless you can get a whole 110 that's not rusted through for half that. If you do go ahead you'll have full support from us:)

Looks like quite a bit of work, but well worth it. Are you sure the budget will be enough.

Well on eBay if you look hard enough it seems like you can pick stuff up for defenders and series really really cheap! My friend has bought rear tubs for £10 bulkheads for £50 doors cheap etc etc so hoping between that and Newbury I can keep to a 1500 budget on the body itself.. Either way I was quoted 3k to restore a disco that would still only be worth 2k at the end if I spend 2k doing this then I won't be losing a huge amount of money if and when I sell it!

Trying to be optimistic on the budget :) haha try and get as many bargains as I can! If I go over oh well! It'll be worth it when it's done :D thanks! I shall upload lots of pictures!

Think outside the box ;)

I found a series 2 in a field for £150 on farming ads website. Good but would be a plasma cutter. 110 tub and cut the rear 10 inches off.
