Quick question, when i had horses i had disco's to tow them with and they were great for that, now i have a TD4 Hippo,my friend rung last night and said oh your new car has a towbar would i go and collect a horse from a sale yard for her,it will be one horse of 15hh (med sized) pulling an ifor williams trailer, the horse is about 30mins up the road,my question is can my hippo do this? i havnt said yes yet as i dont want to kill my hippo, for the sake of a 30min horse pull.So before i give the ok i thought id ask here.

Should be ok, ifor 511/510 is about 1000Kg, 15.2hh about 500 ish Kg so as long as your within the 1750 max breaked towing limit for a Freelander.

I frequently see them at horse show with trailers attached - two biggish horses and you are well over the legal limit.

The FL2 has a slightly bigger limit of 2tonnes but still well behind 3500Kg of the rest of the landy range.

Since a FL2 is more powerful than a D1/2 it's purely a weight thing for stability.

Thanks for that guy's,so i should be ok,its a motorway flat run approx 30 minutes to get there,no nasty hills to encounter, and just the one horse on return journey.Ok i will do it for her.
cheers again.

Well i did it last night, and was really surprised how well the hippo did,the trailer felt nice and solid behind me i had good visability of the trailer from my mirrors, and even with a hill to get up to the yard it was fine im really surprised how much power my TD4 has,it didnt struggle at all even when pulling away from stationary on slightly uneven ground with a horse in the trailer.
I wouldnt want to make it a regular thing i mean i dont want to kill my hippo, but as a once in awhile thing i would be ok with it.
