Hello folks, I know this problem has been covered time and again, have read most of the posts and can't quite find an answer. I have a 1.4 amp current draw when vehicle is locked etc. I am using a Fluke current clamp to take the reading. I have disconnected all fuses in the fuse box under the bonnet, one by one. Relays also. No change in current draw. I have disconnected the rf receiver (the one with 2 plugs), no change. The only thing I have not checked is disconnecting the alternator. I will do this in a few minutes (am waiting for vehicle to settle after locking and alarming with remote before checking current draw again) Will post alternator disconnection result in a few mins. Any ideas?

PS Have just bought and fitted a Lincon 105 ampere hour battery. 686 no I think so battery is good:)

If the vehicle is new to you have alook around under the dash for aftermarket fittings such as phone kits and trackers - often these draw current to run circuits and charge their nicad back up batteries.
Not sure how accurate a clamp meter will be at the low current you need to measure, the sleep current should get down to 20-30mA.If its a petrol car with LPG the ecu for that will often take 50-70mA on its own.

Thank you chaps, points noted. Have had my P38 Diesel Rangey a good 8 years now, (206,000 miles) so know her quite well. Have disconnected extra equipment circuits one by one, no change. Disconnected alternator, no change. Will test again using a multimeter as am a little dubious as to current clamp meter accuracy. However, a good clean up of the + terminal ends to auxillary equipment, alternator etc at the battery (there are about 4 of them) has reduced reading to 0.4 amps. Now I will test using a multimeter for greater accuracy. Everything else reads ok, can see correct current draw when vehicle unlocked, locked etc. Was hoping was RF problem but apparently not so. Further testing required!
