my 1.8 has just blown the head gasget for the 2nd time in 12 months. I may get away with changing the head or i could change the engine. I was quoted 750 for an engine (2000). Is this engine the same as in the rover 318i. and if so will it fit straight in to a freelander.

the engine is the petrol rover K engine. Will fit yes but there are two types of K series, with the distributor cap and w coils.

ive got the same blown headgasket in my 2001, I just think that is not a good value for money fixing it all the time I feel like I am trowing my money away every time I go o a garage. Thats a common problem on the K series engines, and it will happen again soon or late.

You gotta keep in mind that the head gasket fails for one reason, usually overheating, so youve gotta find what is making your gasket fail. what is causing the overheating??

LR brought out new hose modification that moves the thermostat. think i remember it being mentioned somewhere on here. Anyway when i got mine HG done the price included that mod, new dowels, head skimmed and upgraded gasket set. 12 month warranty too. :p
