The wifes Uncle has a 1.8 Freelander and the engine management light started coming on for a few mins when first started, this was a couple of weeks ago. Then last week the light was on all the time so a few questions and it was decided that a change of filters, oils and plugs might make a difference (we even changed the fuel filter).

The light is still on and I can't work out why, first though was the Lamder probe but then after a search it looks like it could a air flow sensor which isn't like the one on my disco so I'm a bit stuck on that one.

The Head Gasket was changed this time last year so hoping it's not going to be that again. The car runs ok with only a small hesatation when pulling off and a slight wobble when idling.

Any ideas before I start ripping the engine apart.

unless ya can pin it ,your gunna have to get a diagnostic to find out what s bringing the light on ,as its not staying on then its not a generic urgent so at a guess low fuel pressure ,but that in itself is a minefield ie sensor [lp] fuel filter youve done ,fuel pmp weak ,even ****e in the fuel, put some injector cleaner in first see if it shifts it. . . . . worth a try eh

Assuming your Freelander is 2001 onward and therefore OBDII compatible, get yourself one of these diagnostic readers -

Brilliant value for money and they work well reading your fault code and allowing you to put out the light - I have one of these and it works! saves all the guess work

Got the same problem on my 1.8ltr Freelander.
Been on since we aquired the car in March this year but the car was running fine till this week when the Cat failed. Doh!!!
Could be that you need to reset the ECU after the service, as lack of servicing can make the engine management light flash intermitantly.:director::director::director:
