Hi all

I have an intermittent engine management light, flashes at revs over 2500 with no engine load

My code reader is showing codes misfire on cylinders 1 and 4

I am struggling to fix the problem

I had to change the head gasket due to low compression, I now have compression of 180-200 on all cylinders.
I have so far tried swapping the coil packs between cylinders 1/4 and 2/3. I have also tried coil packs off another engine
I have swapped out the spark plugs for new ones and checked the plug gaps. I have also tried swapping the plug around in the engine
The fuel is a little old, so I have added fresh fuel and injector cleaner, but no difference
I have checked the wiring and can't see anywhere where there could be a break

Any suggestions what I should try next. I do have 2 spare engines to swap bits off of, but I would rather not be randomly swapping parts and sensors

NB Freelander is a 52 plate

Thanks
Andrew

Cylinders 1 and 4 are on the same coil, so it's likely to be connected to that. 200 Psi sounds high for the compression, which is normally around 175-180 Psi. It could be the cam timing is slightly out, accounting for the high compression.
It's worth checking the fuel pressure too, as that can drop as the fuel filter clogs.

Thanks Nodge68
My first though was coil pack, that's why I have tried 3 coils, but no difference. Compression test was done on a warm engine, I think that can raise compressions, but will give it another test with a cold engine.

Don't have the kit to test the fuel pressure, but will maybe see if I can swap over the fuel filter with one from another one of my hippo's

Have you double checked the cam pulleys are exactly in line when the crank is set. It's really really easy to get it one tooth out so it looks like they're half a tooth out of alignment.

Had another look at it today, timing looks correct. I have spotted a fuel leak where the fuel line goes into the fuel rail. I will need to fix that before I try anything else. Looks like the fitting on the end of the pipe is damaged

Now solved the problem.

After fixing the fuel leak, and changing over the fuel sender for one from my donor car, there was no improvement.
Having read somewhere that modern engines calculate a misfire based on the signals form the crank and cam sensor.
I decided to change the cam sensor and this has fixed the misfire and EML
