Hi everyone! after a week abroad, I came home to find my rangie dead. The battery voltage was about 2v - strange!! anyway, having managed to wire up a battery for enough time to pop the boot (the jumper cables were in the spare wheel - aaargh! no access without electrics), I managed to jump start the car. The screen came on as usual, then went off after a few seconds. I have leared all the other errors and warnings by rotating the steering to full lock both ways, but the screen is still blank. The backlight is on (ie screen glows grey at night), and the buttons still work (volume, station presets etc) but nothing on the display! help!! is it that the battery is still not back up to strength and hence the display wont work, or have I blown something expensive?

Thanks all!!

check to see if the navigation computer has a red light on in the rear entertainment compartment in the boot area (left hand side) can you hear the disc spinning?? the front display only outputs the interface of the nav computer, the buttons control the radio module which is a completly different unit.

Thanks for the suggestion but yes and yes.

Is it worth trying the had-reset thing by disconnecting the battery etc?

you could do but make sure the red light (on the actual nav unit in the boot) has gone out before you disconnect the battery (about 2-5 minutes after the last door has been opened/closed) if you dont wait for the red light to go out you may cause permeant damage and require a new unit £300-£500!!

Thanks Matt. I will have a look tonight. I am worried now - since I used some old wire touched on to the battery terminals to give momentary power to the central locking to open the boot, I wonder whether I could have caused permanent damage though that... Surely the unit can take the battery being disconnected at any time?! seems a silly design, but I will check tonight!!!
