Afternoon,

My 02 td5 defender was stolen from my drive approx 2weeks ago. Police recovered it after 2 days. Thieves had caused damage to wings, doors and some of the interior. Insurance company wrote it off.
Today after a supposedly independent assessor had a look. He has valued it at £3,500 !!! This is against comparable vehicles advertised (waiting for these adverts to be sent to me). This was as the car had corrosion to the doors, it's a landrover !!! I've even got the replacement parts.
Can anyone offer advice as to what I do to obtain a fairer price ?? Other than the doors it was spot on, not even 100k yet !!!got high back seats around, alloys etc...

Yours fuming

Adam.

Annoyingly as far as Insurance companies seem to be concerned you will only get what "Webuyanycar.com" will pay which as we all know is far from the vehicles worth to replace

Be interesting to hear what Mr AdriansFux has to say on the matter ;)

Theres a few on here gone through similar. Basically find a few similar to yours on ebay, autotrader. Copy page and send them as evidence. You can refuse their offers. With supporting evidence they have to get at least close.

You can buy back your vehicle at a percentage of the payout with the rest in cash, fix up yourself

What might get you some extra cash is trying to find similar models from Nene Overland or Land Rover, usually a bit overpriced. So could help you

Good idea, will do.

Lodged the complaint so waiting for the asserors adverts he used as a comparison.
Only good thing is, they've offered my truck back to me for under £500 !!!

So truck back, and £3k in your pocket to repair it? If they up their offer you're going to be rolling in it! Just make sure to act quickly and ensure that they don't scrap it. What cat did they write it off as too? Unlikely to be more than a D, but worth a check just incase I guess

As other have said. STAND YR GROUND,
When mine was stolen I was offered crap money - I bombarded them with pictures and comparisons. Told them to watch similar vehicles on bay of e - (one 200di went for 2k OVER sensible price for instance)

You just gotta really be firm as it's your 'hobby vehicle' for instance etc - so not a 'farm vehicle' - lovingly tinkered with etc etc.
But next time get an agreed value policy!!! My lesson learnt!

Good advice re agreed value.

However nobody will give agreed value on our pristine 2006 TD5 CSW

The best l could get was a "top up" policy that pays out an extra £2500 over the insurance settlement figure.

Mint Defenders like ours sell for £13-15k at dealers. Webuyanycar.com offered £8000

The insurance 'thieves' will always use the least value they can find - proof of value is down to the owner - keep all receipts for additional accerories etc. Keep a portfolio of pics. Ring around for 'agreed value' policies. Land Rovers' are specialist vehicles in the REAL world (not the insurers). The insurance companies generally do not understand anything other than 'CAR'. :smash:

Importantly - your landy does NOT depreciate in the same manner as a eurojap box!

I had my 90 200tdi insured for £4.5k. (my profile pic 90). It took 8 weeks of arguements and proof supplied by myself. :fencing:

- minus the excess, I got the FULL amount insured back. Still at a personal financial loss due to tools/recovery gear etc that was lost. Persistance.
Replacement 90 (300tdi) is on an agreed value policy. :D
