Morning All,

I was wondering when I should change certain sensors like the above or oil temp, water temp or pressure sensor/MAP sensor and what else exists? The old lady has now 167k on the clock and don‘t know when those were changed, if ever. Some look rusty. Would that help to improve fuel cons.? I was on around 41.xx mi/gal on the motorway at 110/15 before I ‚fixed‘ the car and the air duct collapsed/forgot the map plug or it slipped out and was wondering if there would further space for improvement. No egr blank or Synergy2 so far.

Cheers
Matthias

Ok, thanks, thought they would maybe kind of wear of and not working as they should anymore.

The main sensor that does degrade over time is the MAF. It uses a hot wire that is cooled by the air flowing over it. The ECU provides the current to heat the wire up to a set temperature while monitoring the current needed to do so. As the hot wire oxidizes away, the current needed reduces, so the ECU assumes the air flowing over it has also reduced. This can lead to premature introduction of the "anti-smoke" fueling map, which drops power off.

No other sensor really wears out in the same way.

Thanks Nodge, guess that‘s what I have now. Addressed it in the other thread here https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/td4-down-in-power-now-maf.331890/page-2.
