Hi guys,
Finally had a good look for the leak on my PS pump/hoses today.
Gunked everything from the reservoir down to the pump, cleaned it all off and had a good check.
The only leak I could find was at the base of the pump itself. Initially, I thought the fluid was leaking out of the lowest point on the gasket join but after repeated re-cleaning/wiping, I'm not so sure.
I've checked the manual and it seems the inlet pipe is connected to the pump via a LP pipe fitting which has an O ring inside for the seal.
I've tried to capture the gradual leak on the pics below and it seems to develop on the leading edge of this small, diamond shaped fitting, then 'overflows' and runs down the pipe.
As you can see, this has obviously been changed at some point as the jubilee clip isn't standard.
My question is, has anyone else had the O ring fail before (yes, I know, it's a Land Rover) and if so, what process would I follow to replace it? Also, does anyone know where I can order one online from?

Thanks for the reply, sorry I didn't get back straight away, only just able to come on here....One last quick question. I've got her booked for the MOT tomorrow and was wondering if this is an MOT fail? It's constant so there's plenty of signs of a leak all over this part of the engine etc.
If it is, would a temporary fix using those 'leak sealing' fluids be an okay move? Or would that make a (hopefully) simple problem into potentially a complex, expensive one with it's knock-on effects within the system (further seal damage) ?
Any guidance on this point very welcome.
Thanks Rob

Hi Rob, just out of coincidence mine's due in for it's CT (MOT in France) tomoz as well and used to have a pas fluid leak.

Personally I wouldn't use a 'leak stop' type product just get a couple of new O-rings. A couple I hear you say? Having mucked up O-rings in the past my advice is always buy more than you need !!

thebiglad,
Thanks mate, sound advice. I've read a few posts for and against and the against's have my vote. Just being a bit lazy i guess and looking for the quick and easy fix and putting off the inevitable!
I've ordered the parts and am hoping that if it's pointed out during the MOT, I'll be able to convince the Tester that I've got the part coming and will do it as soon as it arrives. Fingers crossed there.

BTW, like the Bonne.....I've an old Harley sitting outside!!

Land Rovers and bikes eh?

Go together like "peas and carrots".

The best of luck with your MOT - I've got mine tomoz also.

Congrats mate. Wish I could say the same. Failed on Long Arm bush excessive play and steering universal and split joint and intermediate shaft. Plus a couple of other small things but those two are f*****s. Especially the steering.
Not sure how to even access them. Haven't looked yet but do you know if there's a post with pictures on here covering these points? Going to look now anyway.
****er really, the lad was a biker too and we were chatting about bikes while he went at it with the finest of tooth combs!! Never seen an MOT like it. Even picked up slight fraying on the belts on the two fold down seats....always been like that and no one ever noticed before.....hey ho, such is life. Time to get stuck in an sort stuff. Miss my old garage....back on the street in the bloody rain !!
Cheers

That's a bit disappointing Rob, sorry to hear you got a 'keen' one.

So, not sure what you're referring to when you say " steering universal and split joint and intermediate shaft."

Do you mean the bar that goes from the steering box lower arm to the nearside front wheel? If you do, that's a part I replaced on mine. I bought it from Paddocks and was quite cheap. Comes with both ball-joints and the adjuster for setting the steering wheel.

Cheers

That's it Dave. I've been looking online and found this Disco Steering Column
It's a series of photo's of the lad changing his. My worry was access. What did you have to remove to get good access or were you able to do it more or less 'as is'?
I'll be ordering it today Meanwhile a drop of oil on the U/J might not be amiss for a day or two.
Cheers

Hi Rob, that is not at all what I was talking about. This article is talking about rectifying a problem that occurs between the steering wheel and the input side of the steering box. I was talking about the control arm arm (called the Drag Link) between the steering box lower arm and the nearside front wheel.

OK so stiffness in the steering column. It's always in the U/j's so some oil on them wouldn't go amiss at all. However the lower U/j is available separately should be needed.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but 'allegedly' had the same problem I currently have and his photo in the first post shows the location of the problem o-ring. The second post suggests the part number is QYX200160 No14 in the exploded diagram. This is the o-ring for the pipe from the pump to the box whereas the leak is at the connection from the reservoir to the pump.

The pipe fitting, as shown in allegedly' photo, and which contains the o-ring, comes with the pump and not the replacement hose.

Does anyone know if this o-ring has a part number?
