Can't agree with you about BMW, outrageously expensive parts and service and on the one I had **** poor quality......
Also had a hard jiggly ride and rock hard seats.

Forgot to say....just like Land Rover then??? Main stealers in Norwich don't even know what a P38 is and are so far up their own ar**s won't even give you the time of day. Coopers BMW OTOH have been pretty helpful even with minor queries. I suppose it varies from stealership to stealership, but most main dealers just seem to want to rip everyone off as much as possoble, whatever the make of car - its the name of the game!!:doh:

I agree absolutely, Land Rover quality is very poor. The difference is the spares are relatively cheap and all the technical info is available to make DIY repairs possible. The point I tried to make is that in many respects BMW are not a lot better. as for Mercedes, even the Chief Exec said they were crap on the TV, put it down to the Chrysler influance. The only truly reliable cars I have ever owned have been Toyota and to a lesser extent Mitsubishi. Could just be luck of the draw I suppose My Toyota MR2 is 24 years old, I've had it from new, in that time it has had both window mechanisms fail and thats it.

Bit harsh. Some stick is bound to be forthcomming slating a Landrover product over a different marque on a Landrover forum.

Anyway an X5 should be compaired to a L322 not a P38. An X5 should not the spots off a P38 (which IMHO I don't think it does) as there's nearly 10years between development (more on the engine) And most of the early development on L322's is BMW, which as the years have gone by has been shelved for Ford/Jaguar input.

My P38 is now over 10 years old and I'm more than happy how it performs.

The truth is sometimes harsh.

You do make good comments regarding the age of the P38 development. Dont know much about rthe L322 but a comparative to the X5 would be interesting...

I love my P38 - I guess Rangiegal is pretty keen on hers too.

Objective reviews about other vehicles would however be more helpful than the crap that is often quoted.

There are as many opinions as there are people, really....and we're all entitled to them. I own a p38 and its still a lovely vehicle, performs well, but in MY opinion, as the owner of BOTH a p38 and an X5, the X5 does knock the sports off a p38 as well as an l322-I test drove the RR Sport and an L322 vogue supercharged before I chose the X5 and neither impressed me with drive quality or build quality and the seats were hard and uncomfortable. The VW Touareg was also better than either of them, IMO. The X5 forum has an amazing number of ex-Range Rover owners (mostly Sport and L322) who hated the RR and changed over to X5s...I suppose its the same for lots of other makes and models, variety keeps the motoring public interested and the perfect vehicle doesn't exist!!!


By the way, I wasn't slating Land Rover products if you re-read the posts....I actually own both a BMW and a Range Rover and both have their strengths and weaknesses. The OP was the one slating every other marque other than a p38.
I think the OPs branding BMW drivers/ owners in general as criminals and drug-dealing reckless creatures goes well beyond "some stick". Its just plain bigoted and out of order!!:doh:

Actually, I've spent a long time on this forum as a Rangie owner and have helped a few and been helped by many. No necessity for anyone to be downright bigoted and offensive when it comes to car ownership, the forums are to help one another and share info, not slate everyone in creation because you have little man syndrome and seem to need an outlet for your frustration!!

A few guys from here have recently posted on Bimmer Forums about radio kit - no-one told them what a heap of crap they were driving and how dare they post on a Bimmer Forum, nor have I seen the sort of yobbish behaviour you displayed on there either. Go figure.

easy tigers!Seems rangie girl likes cars cos of there seats. Others dont.Each to their own. To me x5 are nearly pointless as a 4x4 to me is used off road and /or for towing. The x 6 is just plain silly, a coupe with a high centre of gravity.Madness.As for the drug dealing/mobile phones/general bad driving issue well i can recall getting cut up by x5 drivers, l322 drivers and espeshially rr sport drivers.My rangie was comfy all day long ride was good-considering age weight n size.

Rubbish! The closest most Range Rovers (and most other SUVs and "urban" 4x4s)ever see to "off road" is when their wheels go up the pavement, be that in Chelsea or elsewhere !! X5s are as capable as a Range Rover on road, even in difficult conditions like the recent extreme weather. They were never intended to venture into fields and rivers, or indeed to go very far OFF road, but then let's face it, most Range Rovers never get into fields or rivers or very far from a road either and the fancy electronics certainly would not cope well with being hammered in true off road conditions or swamped in water, even if the 4x4 system works there!!

T'was the wide low profile tyres / wheels combo.......the mechanics of the vehicle, however yuk ugly it may be, are capable of sending it up the grass bank, but silly sledges for tyres aren't going to keep many cars moving upwards on slippery inclines. The X6 is not particularly popular for good reason, I would think! The X5 is a different beast altogether.

Mind you, Freelanders are probably the worst-ever 4x4, especially the early 1.8s that were guaranteed to break down fso requently, and I recall the incident in which they also couldn't negotiate a grassy slope.....but people buy them, drive them and like them. Takes all sorts. No need to attack people, though, about the car/s they choose to drive, but a decent discussion is always welcome
