Yeh but no.

The sensors/loom for the Thor and Gems engines are different. Dunno about gearboxes, but its the lectronic one...so different from a disco 1 RR Classic one.

any after 96 will fit, you will have to swap sensors about and air intake!

The Thor flywheel sensor is in a slightly different position to the Gems engine and the actual hole in the housing is different. When we did our rebuild with a new short motor, the block was pre-Thor and the adaptor plate is welded into the rear flange of the block. We modified our plate to move the sensor to the right position.

engine is a straight swap if you get a ealier engine the crank sensor is wrong apart from that easy job

There is another issue on the engine side that may be overlooked, and we look to have a classis instance on our own engine.

The GEMS engine not only has a slightly different position for the flywheel sensor, it also has a different camshaft gear.

So, if you have a THOR engine on a GEMS block, the flywheel sensor position has to be modified slightly, or perhaps use the GEMS engine flywheel.

The camshaft must match the injection system, although the GEMS camshaft gear will work with the THOR system, albeit with some lumpiness and tendency to stall (don't ask me how I know!)

It is the cutouts in the camshaft gear that are different, and the THOR system has a problem with the GEMS cutouts.

I've only found this out tonight, courtesy of 'Jon-V8' on the Landrovernet forum. Our Disco 2 came with a 4.6 engine, and when we changed it all over to a new 4.0 short motor, the camshaft was swapped over as well, complete with gear. It was running when we got it so we had no way of knowing what has been bodged.

So, this weekend we will be taking the timing cover off our engine....
