hi to every one i am new to land rover i have a 2005 year freelander td4 diesel bmw engine can any one let me no is the automatic gear box still a jatco if its Steptronic Automatic Transmission thanks dave

Yes its a Jatco gearbox, start putting some money aside for when it goes wrong

Heard bad things about the jatco box, is it beneficial changing the fluid for the jatco fluid, also is it right you can only change half the fluid without having to strip the box down?

Dunno about that, got a mechanic to change transfer, autobox and diff fluids last month.

Have you heard bad things or bad noises? If only bad things leave well alone, if it aint broke don't fix it.

When you do a fluid change some oil remains in the torque converter and can't be changed. Only way to improve on that if it's necessary to get crappy oil out is to change it twice.

well mine seems ok but have seen people slating the reliability of the jatco box on other forums

Then i agree with jonfre, leave well alone. Perhaps have a fluid change a little earlier than the recommended 60k interval though.
