Spare wheel stolen

Somebody had the spare wheel off my Defender tonight, clearly the locking wheel nut and wheel cover was no hindrance, as they pinched those too.
Where's the best place to buy a replacement? It's a boost alloy with General Grabber tyre as fitted from new. There are adverts on ebay for new "boost alloy" wheels at £100 without the tyre, are these OK? And is there anything I can do to secure it better?

what wheel and tyre were you running? I see standard stuff go on ebay quite cheaply. just one wheel here and there. maybe you could get a match.

Was it mounted on the bonnet or on the back / tail-door?

I have mine on the bonnet and ought to get a padlocked fired onto it...

It was on the back. it always looked vulnerable on there, just 3 bolts and somebody has £300 worth of wheel and tyre.
I guess I am lucky really, if the thieves were that close to my Defender, that they only took the spare wheel.

as i run 35" simex which are too heavy for the back door really,i chopped of the rear spare wheel mount and i have the spare mounted inside.and cos they cost me the cost of a small planet i didnt want some thieving scumbag helping themselves to it.

mind you if they want to get in and nick it im sure they will have it,but i do park the rear so close up to the wall it might slow em down and me works van is infront.

like everything tho if they want it they will get it somehow

I took the spare wheel carrier off and put the bolts back in to fill the holes in the rear door, and it looks OK. In fact I'm not sure I prefer it. I think I'll leave it like that and just keep some tyre foam in the cubby box......

Just be warned that if you had a blow out miles from home your breakdown/recovery service will only allow you a 10 mile tow as you do not have a spare. Only vehicles designed NOT to have a spare are exempt from this ruling.

Surely that's for the entry-level, basic breakdown cover.

I've got homeward recovery with the RAC and can't find any exclusion stuff about spares and things...

That tyre foam stuff is rubbish (IMO).

My sister has a BMW M3, it doesn't come with a spare but a can of this muck.
she got a flat last year and the tyre had split slightly (OK, they're low profile rubber bands compared to proper tyres like LR ones) but the foam wouldn't touch it. then remember you've got to have a compressor to pump up your tyre (the BMW comes with a stupid little compressor that plugs into the cig lighter socket, it couldn't pump up a condom!

carry a spare!!!!

Just put an old **** tyre on the back as a spare and put a cover over it.

i dont know if they do them for vehicle tyres but for my mountain bike i carry a spare inner tube and the co2 cannister and valve kit costs £9.99 for the valve and 2 canisters and the 2 cannisters will reinflate 4 tyres and its instant as soon as you open the valve the tyres done.and theese cannisters are only about 10cm long and fit in the under saddle bag perfectly.if only they done em for cars? or do they?

That tyreweld stuff can be ok to get you going again but you will need to blow it up properly asap. It's only sposed to be a "get you home" thing anyway and not recommended for long term use though I've driven on tyres filled with it for months. It does a good job of curing slow punctures.
There's loads of landy wheels and tyres on ebay for not much money so you won't be needin the 300 quid.

OK spare wheel it is then, I'll do as suggested and fit a cheap steel wheel and tyre, with a cover.

It's classed as human error. Human error victims (contaminated fuel, no spare wheels etc) are allowed a 10 mile tow only.

i have a set of BFG on at the mo, and a spare on the bonit , a few times young lads have shouted nice tyres mate ! makes yer wonder, am waitin to get up one day and the spare missing ! thort of drilling the studd for a padlock ? locking nuts dont stop anyone really,
